The Citizen, 2015-11-26, Page 8PAGE 8. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2015.
In two recent stories regarding the
Goderich-to-Guelph (G2G) Rail
Trail, The Citizen reported that
property values along trails have
been shown to rise 10 per cent –
information that was taken directly
from the Huron County Planning
and Development Department’s
report on the trail and was attributed
to a statistics report by Sarah
Wilhelm, a planner with Wellington
County.
In discussion with Wilhelm, she
says she has prepared no such report
and made no such statement.
Rebecca Rathwell from the Huron
County Planning Department, co-
author of Huron County’s G2G
report, said she could not verify the
source of the information, adding
that it likely came from a third party
source.
The information has since been
removed from the report’s policies
table at Wilhelm’s request.

Morris-Turnberry Council is
sending a letter urging Premier
Kathleen Wynne to put a stop to the
sale of Hydro One.
During council’s Nov. 17 meeting,
the issue was put on the agenda by
Councillor Dorothy Kelly.
“I saw in the news that 15 shares
had already been sold,” she said. “If
we are going to do something, we
need to do it now.”
Mayor Paul Gowing said that it
may be too late to stop the move,
despite several important members
of the provincial government
speaking out against the move.
“I know, even if people say it’s not
right, [Wynne is] going to do it
anyway,” Kelly said.
Deputy-Mayor Jamie Heffer
endorsed sending a letter to Huron-
Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson,
however Councillor John Smuck
said that might not make much of a
difference.
“We need to go right to the top,”
he said.
Council decided to send a letter to
Wynne requesting she reconsider the
sale of Ontario Hydro.

During Morris-Turnberry’s Nov.
17 council meeting, council was
informed that further work may be
necessary before the former
Turnberry Central Public School
property could be considered for
development.
The school, which was purchased
by the municipality after it was
closed, has been a part of
the Wingham Industrial Land
Strategy, which seeks to have land
prepared for developers by
completing several necessary studies
prior to it being purchased. One
of those studies, an archeological
assessment, has discovered
artifacts at the former school site,
purchased from the board after it
closed.
During a stage three assessment,
consultants found items of historical
significance, though it is unknown if
a stage four assessment will be
necessary.

Morris-Turnberry councillors
want to make sure that an upcoming
public meeting regarding a potential
auto sales lot in Bluevale be limited
to new information.
Administrator Clerk-Treasurer
Nancy Michie stated that there are
several concerns about the proposed
site and that they have been well
outlined, at length, during previous
meetings.
Deputy-Mayor Jamie Heffer said
he was open to allowing people to
speak on the issue, but agreed it
should only be new information.
Council approved a motion to send
letters to landowners who expressed
an interest in the project outlining
when it would be dealt with by
council.

During its next meeting, Morris-
Turnberry Council will be looking at
eliminating the drainage
commissioner position when it
comes to dealing with drainage
issues.
Currently, when a drainage issue is
brought forward, a commissioner is
picked from council, however, as
Mayor Paul Gowing pointed out,
with Public Works Director Gary
Pipe on scene, the position may be
redundant and could be handled by
Pipe.
Councillor John Smuck agreed,
stating that he held the position last
winter for a drain and he had to drive
through a snow storm to get to the
drain site for a 10-minute meeting.
“It’s a waste of time,” he said.
Council will discuss the issue
further during its Dec. 1 meeting.
