told councillors. “So, I’m trying to
harness them. I don’t want them to
take off.”
She said that Huron County has
been a model student for the
implementation of county-wide
economic development and those
who are involved in the
sessions have been excellent to work
with.
The hope, she said, is that each
group will zero in on one major
focus going forward. If that’s done,
the county will have nine major
initiatives, which would be very
promising, Lass said.
The process, she said, hopes to
delve much deeper than simply
establishing an idea. The hope is
that each core team will develop
its focus – one goal that can be
supported by data, implemented
and then have its success and
metrics tracked and monitored
along the way.
This form of economic
development, she said, is a great way
to track an initiative and know if it’s
succeeding or failing.
As far as co-operation is
concerned, Lass says the teams
have been working very well
together, despite their differing
backgrounds and goals for the
process.
One municipality, Lass said,
doesn’t yet have an economic
development strategic plan, making
it difficult for that municipality’s
core team to participate in the
intended sense.
Enthusiasm from that team,
however, has persisted, with Lass
saying members have been active
participants and plan on using the
process to develop a strategic plan in
their home municipality and begin
their own work from that point going
forward.
While the majority of the process
has been smooth sailing, Lass said,
some of the core teams had
questions and clarifications for
council. One big question mark,
Lass said, was the specific role of the
newly-established Economic
Development Board and its
processes.
Lass also said the teams want
council to “show them the money”
so they know there is real financial
support for their concepts and
initiatives that will allow for proper
implementation.
On that note, Huron County
Director of Planning and
Development Scott Tousaw had
some good news, saying that with its
final intake now complete, the
Huron Economic Development
Partnership (HEDP), was able to
commit a further $1,000 to each core
team – in addition to the first $1,000
provided to each team – as the
process continues.
The next step of the process is the
Performance Measures and Goal
Setting session, followed by the
Implement and Monitor conclusion
stage, tentatively scheduled for the
end of the month.
Oh the complaining as the wet
snow was falling on Friday and
Saturday. A preview of what’s to
come, no doubt. The Farmer’s
Almanac says that if the first snow
falls on unfrozen ground – the
winter will be mild! I guess we will
know in the spring if they are right.
There has been a great run of
weather for the farmers and acres of
soys, white beans and corn have
been taken off and wheat planted for
the 2016 crop year. The cycle begins
again!
Congratulations to all who
made donations to the Healthcare
Heroes Radiothon on Saturday.
The event raised $383,101
for 11 different hospitals.
Wow!
Our sympathies are expressed to
Jane and George Zwep and family
on the passing of Jane’s sister Mary
of Stratford. Our condolences to the
extended family.
Our sympathies to the family of
Edna Pearson on her passing. She
will be missed by her three
daughters Nancy, Joyce and Janet
and their families. Edna was a fun
loving lady who always carried on a
lively conversation. She looked
forward every summer to going to
the cottage with all the extended
family. She loved to get out on her
scooter after moving to Huronlea
and loved to visit with all she met.
Our condolences to all.
We are pleased to report that
Wyatt Stevenson is a little closer to
home now. He is in Wingham
Hospital and still has quite a road
ahead of him in his recovery. He is
in isolation at this point in time, but
he hopefully will soon be able to
have visitors.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Brian Love, Jim
McDonald, Owen Taylor, Randy
Fraser, Sarah Grobbink, Jessica
Kelso, Mary Helen McLachlan,
