Lions Club, IPM take home best float honours
The annual Fall Colour Tour at
Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area
is being held on Sunday, Oct. 4,
from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Hosted by the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority (MVCA), this event cele-
brates both the autumn season and
local stewardship efforts.
Wagon rides through the
Conservation Area will be available
from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The wagon
rides will travel down an old black
cherry laneway and through a mead-
ow filled with fall wildflowers.
Visitors will be dropped off at the
hardwood forest if they wish to walk
back along the river trail.
At 2 p.m. Conservation Authority
staff will be leading a guided walk
focusing on how plants and animals
prepare for winter. Visitors are also
welcome to pick up a trail map and
explore the property on their own.
It’s a great chance to participate in
the 2015 Healthy Hikes initiative.
The MVCA challenges you to spend
some time walking through local
Conservation Areas and track your
hiking time for a chance to win ter-
rific prizes. The Fall Colour Tour is
an official Healthy Hikes event and
participants are eligible for 200
bonus points. More information is
available at www.healthyhikes.ca
Throughout the afternoon, MVCA
staff will be on hand to provide
information about the Conservation
Authority’s stewardship services.
Visitors can stop at the creek to see a
variety of aquatic creatures and find
out what they tell us about water
quality. Forestry, tree planting and
soil information will also be avail-
able and Doug Hocking, MVCA
Water Quality Specialist, will be
answering questions about grants
available through the Huron County
Clean Water Program.
As a special feature of this year’s
Fall Colour Tour, the Huron
Stewardship Council will be bring-
ing their Reptiles at Risk display that
includes live animals. It’s a chance
to see local reptiles up close, learn
about their amazing adaptations and
find out what we can do locally to
help boost their numbers.
Admission to the Fall Colour Tour
is free and there will be lots of hot
apple cider available. Donations to
support education programs at the
Wawanosh Nature Centre will be
gratefully accepted.
Wawanosh Valley Conservation
Area is located north of Blyth, and
west of County Road 4 at 38854
Nature Centre Road. For informa-
tion visit www.mvca.on.ca or con-
tact MVCA at 519-335-3557.

Fall Colour Tour this Sunday
It wouldn’t be the fair without...
Don McNeil’s parade machine has been a staple of the Brussels Fall Fair, and many other
area fairs, for decades now and it simply wouldn’t be the Brussels Fall Fair without it. (Denny Scott

Showing off
While Belgrave’s Emily Bieman had a pretty full plate in
September, what with returning to school at Maitland River
Elementary School and being the Ambassador of the
Elementary School Fair, she still found time to show some
of her animals at the 4-H show at the Brussels Fall Fair.
