The Blyth Campground was
extremely busy this week and will
only get busier as the annual reunion
of the Huron Pioneer Thresher and
Hobby Association kicks off
tomorrow, Sept. 11.
Running Sept. 11 to 13 for the
public, and having started earlier this
week for members of the
association, the event sees the Blyth
Campground house enough campers
to grow the village’s population by
leaps and bounds.
Built around steam engines, and
often referred to as The Blyth Steam
Show, the event is in its 54th year.
Members of the association were
on the grounds as early as last week
preparing the site for the annual
event, which brings in thousands of
visitors to the village.
The gates open to the public on
Friday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. with
displays, crafts and student activities
as well as working displays and
lifestyles programming starting at 9
a.m.

Heaman and his band take the stage
at 11 a.m., just prior to the opening
ceremonies at 12:30 p.m.
The afternoon features a fun
tractor pull at 1 p.m., a threshing
demonstration starting at 1:15 p.m.
and the daily parade at 4 p.m.
Another musical regular at the
event, the Twilight Serenaders, will
be playing at the Lifestyles Tent at

will take the auditorium stage at the
Blyth and District Community
Centre from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Saturday, the gates open at 8 a.m.
A tractor pull and horse
demonstration are set for 10 a.m.
with a threshing demonstration set
for 10:30 a.m.
The annual fiddle competition,
held in Shed 3, will start at 12:30
p.m.
Pierce’s Country Music will take
the main stage at noon with the
Teeswater Pipe Band playing in
front of the main stage at 1 p.m.
The tractor pull and garden tractor
pull also start at 1 p.m. alongside the
children’s garden and lawn tractor
rodeo and the children’s pedal
tractor pull.
A second threshing demonstration
is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. and
special competitions, like bag tying

1:30 p.m.
The Teeswater Pipe Band will play
again at 3 p.m. in front of the main
stage followed by the daily parade at
4 p.m.

Both Friday and Saturday special
programming will be held at the
Lifestyles tent and the working
displays will be ongoing throughout
the reunion.
Sunday the gates open at 8 a.m.
again and a special church service is
scheduled at 9:30 a.m. at Shed 3.
At 11 a.m., threshing and horse
demonstrations are scheduled as
well as a tractor pull that will start as
soon as the church service is
completed.
At noon the Country Versatiles
will take to the main stage and, at
12:30 p.m. in Shed 3, the annual step
dancing competition is scheduled.
Special events and the children’s
pedal tractor pull are scheduled for
the afternoon with the final parade
set at 4 p.m.
The reunion features a little
something for everyone with indoor
and outdoor vendors and artisans,
antique farm equipment, antique
vehicles, tractor pulls, foods of all
kinds and, of course, threshing
demonstrations.
The feature vehicle for the antique
vehicle show is a 1961 Thunderbird
Convertible owned by Dean
Thompson of Thedford.
Thompson explained to The
Citizen that the vehicle is a rare build
of the 1961 Thunderbird and called
to him from the moment he saw it.
The feature tractor is a 1956
Minneapolis-Moline GB owned by
Darrell and Darren Thomson of
Kippen. The tractor was purchased
by their father for use with a very
specific bean harvester and is an odd
one out for their collection.
The brothers took over their
father’s collection of antique tractors
which is mostly International
models except for a few exceptions
like the GB.
