Ross and Barbara Anderson celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Aug. 23 at their home in Belgrave, a mere two blocks away from where the couple was wed on Aug. 19, 1950. Barbara Michie of Concession 5 in Morris Township, daughter of James and Jeanie, was wed to Ross, son of Jack and Myrtle of Belgrave at Belgrave United Church by Rev. W.J. Moores. Attendants of the couple were Jean Wills, Donna Anderson and Joan Cole and Lloyd Anderson, George Michie and Bill McCleneghan as well as flower girl Ruth Michie. The couple honeymooned in Midland and Port McNichol before returning to Belgrave where Ross owned Anderson’s Hardware and Electric for 40 years. Through the business he provided electrical and plumbing work in the area. Barbara was a school teacher for eight years before helping with the hardware store. The couple retired in 1990 and have four children, Richard of Goderich, Nancy of Hanover, Doreen of Peterborough and Sheila of Guelph as well as eight grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. Both enjoyed time in the church choir. Between the two of them they held offices in the church, the Sunday school program and the UCW. The family celebration, which was held on Aug. 23 at their Parker Drive home in Belgrave welcomed members of the original wedding party back like Lloyd Anderson of London, accompanied by Eleanor, and special guest Donna Shaw of Belgrave. Ross served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a radar mechanic during World War II in Newfoundland as well as at various stations in England. After retiring he enjoyed lawn bowling and curling. The couple enjoyed camping holidays with their children and have had several interesting trips since retiring and building their retirement home. BLYTH PRINTING INC.
