Aitken, Josie win OFSAA gold
Lexi Aitken and Mackenzie Josie
both earned first place finishes at the
Ontario Federation of School
Athletic Associations (OFSAA)
track and field championships over
the weekend.
Aitken, from St. Anne’s Catholic
Secondary School, and Josie, from
Central Huron Secondary School,
along with Ella Baker-Lehnen (St.
Anne’s) and Devon Newell (Central
Huron), competed at the OFSAA at
Varsity Stadium in Toronto over the
weekend.
Aitken, who is attending St. Anne’s
Catholic Secondary School and has
already signed a scholarship contract
with Texas Christian University,
earned first-place finishes in the
Senior 100-metre hurdles and a silver
medal in the 400-metre hurdles.
Central Huron Secondary School
student Mackenzie Josie earned a
first-place finish in discus and
second place in the shot put.
Aitken and Josie were among 20
students from Central Huron and St.
Anne’s to compete at the OFSAA
West qualifiers last month. Other

Three F.E. Madill students
advance to provincial tourney
Approximately 1,300 athletes
competed at the Ontario Federation
of School Athletics Associations
(OFSAA) West Championships last
week at TD Waterhouse Stadium at
University of Western Ontario.
Sixteen athletes from F.E. Madill
Secondary School competed and
rose to the occasion to earn eight
personal best performances and
seven top six rankings. By the end of
the events, three athletes had
qualified for OFSAA.
Going into the discus event ranked
fifth, Ben Newell knew he would
have to throw well in order to place
in the top four and qualify. He
hurled the discus 46.97 metres to
earn a personal best throw and
placed third to earn a qualifying
position. This marks the second
consecutive year in which Newell
has qualified for OFSAA track and
field.
Jessica Johnston continued to
lower her hurdle times in both the
sprint hurdles and 300-metre
hurdles. However, it was high jump
where she cleared the bar at 1.45
metres that earned her a fouth-place
finish and a qualifying place for
OFSAA.
Madill’s other qualifier was
veteran high jumper, Justin
McKague who showed good form as
he cleared 1.91 metres to earn third
place. This will be McKague’s
fourth time at OFSAA.
The OFSAA championships are
the high school provincial
championship and were held at
Varsity Center on the University of
Toronto campus June 4-6.
Pushing on
F.E. Madill Secondary School student Jessica Johnston
may not have earned her way to the Ontario Federation of
School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) with her hurdle times
but she did qualify for the organization’s track and field
championships held last weekend when she earned a
fourth-place finish in the high jump at the OFSAA West
Championships two weekends past. (Photo submitted)
