A third of 2015 is gone. The old adage of “time flies” seems to be very true. The long weekend in May as well as camping season, are just two weeks away. The end of June and the end of school only nine weeks away, and yes Christmas is just eight months away! Lots of things to look forward to. Yippee! The crews are back in town and the sidewalks in the main section of town are being torn up and repoured with cement. It wasn’t very nice for them on Wednesday and Thursday but Friday wasn’t so bad. They have the west side sidewalks done and have moved to the east side of the street as of Monday morning. Construction isn’t always the greatest for the businesses, but the main street shouldn’t be tied up that long. The restaurants seem to be busier with the workers needing coffee and maybe a hot lunch on these colder days. Soon they will be complaining it is too hot! Congratulations to Dave and Karen Bowles on the birth of a new granddaughter. Daughter Paula and husband Kyle Elliott of Mitchell have welcomed Emma to the family. She will be welcomed home by big sister Madison. Great-grandmother, Dorothy Dilworth is excited about a fourth great-grandchild to love. Congratulations to Jean Davidson on celebrating her 80th birthday. She enjoyed a delicious dinner with her many nieces and nephews provided by the United Church ladies at the arena. She was then surprised by her many friends that arrived to help celebrate the milestone. Happy birthday Jean and congrats on reaching 80! Huronlea has welcomed a familiar face to their family with the arrival of Bill Stephenson to their fold. He is settling in nicely and we hope his old friends will stop by for a visit. Our sympathies to Edna McLellan on the passing of her brother Jordan Guy. He will be missed by his three children and their families and his three sisters. He resided in Victoria, B.C.. We are pleased to see Brian Rutledge is out and about again after having surgery a couple of weeks ago. He is doing very well according to wife Marlene. Great news for all. Our get-well wishes go to Jerry Jutzi and to his father George Jutzi. They both have had surgery and we hope both are improving. Our sympathies are expressed to the family of the late Ruby Hoover. She will be missed by her husband Russell and sons Terry and Bob and their families. Ruby and her husband have been residents of the Highland Apartments, moving from Atwood, a few years ago. Ruby and I became friends about a year ago. She was a lovely woman with a great sense of humour and will be missed by many. Our condolences to all. McGavin’s have been making a few changes around the yard this past week. It really looks nice out front of the Bobcat building with the new decorative and functional large stone blocks surrounding the display area. Very nice indeed! One of the awards presented was the Luke Anderson Memorial Award, which goes to the most dedicated Novice players. Here, Brett McCutcheon, front left, and Sam Overholt, front right, are presented with the award by Ken and Diane Anderson. (Vicky Bremner photo) Renovations have resumed at the Brussels Medical Dental Centre after the loss of over a week due to a stop-work order. Morris-Turnberry Councillor Dorothy Kelly updated her fellow councillors as to the situation at council’s April 21 meeting, saying that a small amount of asbestos had been found in the building. In an interview with The Citizen, Brad Knight, Huron East’s Chief Administrative Officer, said that the stop-work order was the result of a mix-up in the paperwork. While the project’s contractor had filed a Notice of Project with the Ministry of Labour, Knight said, a Ministry site inspection on April 2 revealed that a Designated Substance Report had not been completed for the renovations. Knight said that because of the small scale of renovations, the contractor had not anticipated needing the report and did not inquire further with the municipality. The stop-work order was then issued and was eventually lifted once Huron East obtained the report and complied with its requirements. Knight said that while the municipality has obtained Designated Substance Reports in the past, due to the small scale of the project, those involved didn’t think the report was necessary. Knight said that it took 10 days to obtain the report and comply with the order before work could begin again. BMDC work continues
