Walton Raceway
announces sports
expo at TransCan
Walton Raceway has huge
ambitions for 2015, as they launch
the inaugural Canadian Outdoor,
Motorcycle & Power Sports EXPO
(COMP EXPO), in conjunction with
the 24th annual Parts Canada
TransCan; Canadian Motocross
Grand National Championship.
The concept of the Canadian
Outdoor, Motorcycle & Power
Sports Expo is part of Walton
Raceway’s vision of partnering
together with all aspects of the
outdoors, motorcycle and power
sports industry, while focusing on
attracting new consumers to the
marketplace and showcasing for
existing consumers all the different
areas the sport has to offer.
“Our goals of adding COMP Expo
with the Parts Canada TransCan are:
to create further awareness about
Canadian power sports, while
attracting new fans and consumers to
the marketplace, as well as bringing
the entire industry together at one
place, at the right time, for the onsite
launch of many of the next year’s
models, products, parts, gear and
accessories,” said Mark Perrin,
director of marketing for Walton
Raceway. “COMP Expo is working
with industry partners to offer as
many onsite demos and product
releases as possible, to ensure
consumers can view, touch and feel
a product while capturing the live
event and championship racing
experience”.
COMP Expo was modelled after
the USA’s AIMExpo, as well as the
European supershows and is
diversified into the main
classifications of outdoors,
motorcycle and power sports. Each
area is composed of unique
characteristics. The outdoors will be
focused on the involvement of many
outdoor recreational activities, as
part of the organizations Edge of
Walton Challenge Course located at
Walton Raceway. The motorcycle
portion, will take the existing
motocross structure that is in place
with Canada’s largest motocross
event and expand into the other areas
of motorcycling, welcoming the
entire off-road community, as well
as road, sport, touring and additional
markets. In power sport organizers
want to incorporate all the seasons
Canada has to offer, by including
ATV, side by sides, snowmobiles
and watercrafts.

Tough night

HealthKick request shows dependency
Continued from page 7
repeated requests. In 2012, he said,
the program asked for four years of
funding, at the end of which
councillors had hoped the program
would be able to stand on its own
feet. However, now four further
years of funding have been
requested, showing that the initial
four years of support didn’t get the
program where council hoped it
would by the end of the first funding
term.
Furthermore, Blumhagen said that
at the end of the projected four-year
funding term, the program is still not
projected to be sustainable – another
concern council should have with
the request.
Despite the numerous concerns
outlined, Blumhagen suggested that
the request be forwarded to the
Economic Development Board for
consideration. He suggested that
because the HealthKick Huron
program fell under the heading of
post-secondary education, one of the
board’s primary focuses, the board’s
input on the request would be
valuable.
Huron East Deputy-Mayor Joe
Steffler, who has supported the
project since its inception, continued
to back HealthKick, saying “it’s not
a project, it’s education”.
Council approved Blumhagen’s
request and the HealthKick Huron
proposal has been forwarded to the
Economic Development Board.
After it has been reviewed by the
board, it will return to council for a
final decision.
Having some fun
With the local broomball season coming to a close, the
Blyth PeeWee Silver Bullets took to the ice on the weekend
for their annual fun day, playing a game against their
parents at the Blyth and District Community Centre where
keeping score wasn’t exactly the priority. (Vicky Bremner photo)
