Council, staff very
concerned with
complaint handling
After word of several complaints
about plowing in Wingham and
Blyth were brought to council’s
attention during its Jan. 12 meeting,
Clerk Kathy Adams reminded
council these complaints were to be
delivered to staff.
Reeve Neil Vincent said he had
received complaints from Wingham
residents and was going to tell
Public Works Director Kelly Church
about them when he arrived in
Wingham.
Adams said these issues need to
be dealt with through the proper
channels to make sure they are being
looked at and that ratepayers are
receiving feedback on their
complaints.
Recently-elected Councillor
Trevor Seip said he didn’t like these
comments being brought up at
council meetings because staff isn’t
prepared for them that way.
“As soon as I get a complaint, I’m
going to pass it to staff,” he said.
“Township Council meetings
shouldn’t be the first place these
complaints are heard. We need
to give [senior staff] time to answer
these questions and concerns.”
Vincent explained that throughout
the past week, township roads were
better maintained than Huron
County roads because the minimum
standard for the township is higher.
However, with the let-up in snow
and the amount of traffic on county
roads, they had become more bare.
He also said complaints coming
from Blyth were likely because a
new plow had been purchased
and was being used in the village
and it would take some time for
the plow to get set to the proper
settings.

Gowing feeling up
to challenges of
Warden position
At his first meeting of Huron
County Council since being elected
warden, Morris-Turnberry Mayor
Paul Gowing says he’s ready to go
and put his all into the position.
After the Jan. 7 meeting of council
was postponed due to weather and
rescheduled for Jan. 14, Gowing told
councillors, during the warden’s
comments portion of the meeting,
that he was in the process of getting
his “feet on the ground”.
While he missed some council
time due to a health concern late last
year, Gowing assured council that he
had been given a 100 per cent clean
bill of health by his doctors early
this year and that he was “feeling
great”.
He added that he won’t have to see
his doctors again for another year.
“I want to thank council for the
support through that tough time,”
Gowing said. “I’m feeling great and
up to the challenge.”
