Today, thousan of Christians
make the pilgrimage to the hill sown of
Bethlehem each Christmas. A high
point of their visit is the Grotto-of the
Nativity—the rock-hewn stable where,
traditionally, Christ was born. •

"For unto you is horn this day in
the city of David a Saviour, which is
Christ ,the Lord." Luke 2:1 1
Bethlehem stands high on a hill, and
below it is "Shepherd's Field," where
tradition says the shepherds heard the
glad tidings of the Nativity.
The leruSalem YMCA holds carol
services in the Field on Christmas Eve.
And shepherds, who still tend their
flocks in nearby fields, come to watch
and share in the celebration.
- COLD FEET
DEAR COLD FEET - One des-
cription of the job suggests:"The
M.C. should stand up so people
can see him; speak up so they
can hear him; shut up so they
will like him." If you can't easily
be seen, or heard, or if you
talk too much, you are a failure.
It lies with you to put the
whole affair in good humor.In-
troduce guests, make each one
feel at home, keep the program
on schedule.
If the speaker goes on much
too long, stop him. Not by pul-
ling coattails, but by scribbling
a note, "Three minutes left",
and putting it in front of him.
Or, better still, by pre-arrang-
ing a specified sign-off time.
When emergencies arise, like
soup down somebody's neck, don't
panic - smile. And get it fixed.
DEAR DORIS
- My two little boys are hard
to manage, and I am expecting
another baby in five months'
time. I am just 18.
The oldest boy is high-strung
and if anything doesn't go the
way he wants it to he throws an
awful tantrum.
I nearly had him off the bottle
this spring and when my husband
came home one Friday night he
couldn't stand to hear him cry
so he gave the bottle back to
him.
It is the same thing with my
other discipline. This really
discouraged me to have this hard
task undone when I was at my ..
- WITS' END
DEAR WITS' END - If your
very young husband thinks he is
helping anybody when he gives
the baby his bottle against your
wishes, the only person he is
indulging is himself. When will
such fathers learn that raising
children takes two.
All he does is disorganize,
when he should be carrying half
the load of training. Perhaps
if you backed up your objection
with a word from the experts
like the public health nurses,
this might make an impression.
There are alsoChild Training
pamphlets to back you up. These
are to be had from your local or
provincial health department.
CONFIDENTIAL TO 131464::
FATHER - Speak from art,
when you welcome your new son-
in-law into the family. Take
some credit for the romance, if
you can. Tell an entertaining
incident to do with when He
courted Her; or pass out a little
advice about managing your
daughter, as one fealty man to
another.
When you have made your
point and gotten a laugh or two,
thank the guests for helping to
make the occasion a success, and
sit down.
