who opened the meeting with
a poem' followed with the theme
songs- and,_ prayer, -Mrs.- -Rose
Harris conducted • the worship
• asSisted by Mrs, Percy Wright
and Mrs. Jack Brintnell. The
theme was "Pettiness". Hymns
-"Sweet Hour of Prayer" and
• "More about Jesus" was sung.
Ten members answered the roll
call and business attended to.
It was -decided to 'have 'a 'pot'
luck dinner at the congregat-
ional meeting. Mrs. Harris-read
the budget for the coming year.

i. nuary 22nd, which will be at-
tended by. 150 persons.
The annual Family Dinner
scheduled for this month has
been postponed until March.
Mrs. J. Chalmers, citizen-
ship convenor,' took the chair
for the following program. Dr.
Charles Moyo of Seaforth gave
-a very interesting talk on the
Generation Gap, followed by a
reading by Mrs. Ross Broad-
foot, piano solo by Mrs. Robert
Kinsman and the motto read by
Mrs. Alderdyce.
Citizenship and Education was
the theme of the January meet-
ing of the Women's Institute held
Wednesday evening in the Legion
Hall. President 'Mrs. Clarence
Reid. presided. Mrs.James Mc-
Allister was appointed delegate
to attend the Conference at
Guelph in April.
Mrs.,' R.M.Peck, Mrs. R.A.
Orr and Mrs. John Corbett were
appointed a committee °to look
after the display of articles for
Exeter Fall Fair. The Institute
are sponsoring the 4-H -Club
and the leaders are Mrs.Don

The annual meeting of the
Hensall South Huron Agricultural
Society was held Monday. The
re-elected president was John
H. Corbett, R.R.1, Exeter;
1st. vice -president - George
Frayne, Exeter; 2nd vice pres-
ident - Larry Merrier, Zurich;
Secretary-treasurer, P. L. Mc-
Naughton, Hensall.
A 'donation of $100.00 was
voted to' the Hensall Recreation
parks 'and Community Centre
Board, towards the new roof on
Christmas gift to their Pen Pal
Albert Woods. '
Plans• were laid for a card
party with proceeds for the Hen-
sail Recreation Parks and Com-
munity Centre B,pard for reno-
vations for the arena: Mrs.James
,McAllister chaired the program
and spoke on' the life of the late
Stephen Leacock pf Orillla and
also read a selection from one
of his books.
Mrs. Robert Elgie contributed
a reading from one of Harry J.
Boyle's books. Miss Greta Lam-
mie conducted a sing song. Pro-
gram convenor were Mrs.John
Corbett , and rs. James

guson and s. Annie Reid.

Mary. Elizabeth Laughton (nee
McDonell) passed away at
Victoria Hospital, London, and
was buried in Exeter cemetery
at a private funeral with Rev.
Harold Snell officiating.
'Her husband, George V.
Laughton, predeceased her in'
June, 1966..
Mrs. Laughton was born in
Forest, but was raised in Hen-
sail where her father, the late
C. A. McDonell was the pre-
decessor of Bonthron& Drysdale.
Her mother, the late Dr. Mary
Jane McDonell was one of the
first women medical practition-
ers in Ontario. She was the
niece' of the late Dr. Browning
and the late Judge Dickson, both
of Exeter and had close ties
with many of the town's original
families.
- Mrs. Laughton attended Hen-
sall Public School and gradua-
ted from Exeter High School.
„ During World War I she
served as a physiotherapist with
the R.C.A.M.C. in military hos-
pitals across Canada. From then
until the time of her death, Mrs.
Laughton- remained active 'with
the Canadian Red Cross as a
volunteer nurse with the Well
Baby Clinics in Toronto, the
Navy League and other` welfare
projects. She was a volunteer
supervisor at the Red Cross
Lodge, Westminster Hospital,
London, up to. the time of her
death.
After her marriage to Mr.
Laughton, she resided in Toron-
to until her husband retired as
Director of Circulation of the
MacLean-Hunter Publishing Co..
The Laughtons then took up re-
sidence in London, Ontario.
She is. survived by two sons,
C. V. Laughton, Q.C., Exeter,
and Dr. Paul M. Laughton, Ot-
tawa; -7 grandchildren and a sis-
ter, Mrs. Medred Taman, Lis-
towel.

Mr. peters escorted his
daughter down the aisle. The
bride chose a floor-length.gown
on Empire /lines of imported
Chantilly lace and Ligoda. The
bodice was fashioned 'with
a bateau neckline and Illy point
sleeyes. It's 'A' line skirt swept
to a chapel train. A tiara of--'
sequins- held• a four-tier veil of
French illusion. Her boquet was'
composed of red roses and white
mums.
Joyce Lee, Hensall, sister of
the bride, was bridal attendant.
She was gowned in a dress of
light green peau de charm.Sandra
Lee, niece of the bride, was
flower girl and .she wore a white
dress trimmed with green velvet
ribbon.
James Becker, Dashwood,
was best man. Ushers were Rob-
ert Thiel, Zurich and LeRoy:
Peters,' Mitchell, brother of the
bride.
The wedding dinner was held
in the Hensall Legion Hall where
Mr's. Peters received the guests
wearing a blue lace dress with
matching accessories and cor-
sage of pink carnations. She was
assisted by the groom's mother,
who chose a mauve lace dress
with gold accessories and a cor-
sage of yellow carnations.
A reception was held at the
Dashwood Community Centre.

The ,Annual Meeting of St.
Andrew's United Church was held
Sunday, January 11th, at 2.30
in the Church.
Rev. Stuart opened the mee-
ting, with prayer. Minutes were
read and adopted.
Financial reports of Sunday
School, Youth Group, Session,
Stewards, U.C.W., M-& M., Spe-
dal, Truatee Fund, Senior
Choir and Bible Society were
given. Keith Lovell, David Coo-
per, David Turner and Bill Cole-
"-man were elect4d to the Board
of Stewards. William Bell and
Duncan Cooper were re-elected
as Auditors for 1970.
The ..Minister expressed ap-
preciation to the Choir, Session,
Stewards, leaders of the U.C.W.,
Sunday School Superintendent,
teachers, auditors, clerk and to
the organists, Mrs. Gerald Mof-
fatt, Mrs. David Cooper, Mrs.
Harold 'Jones and Kenneth Jones
who supplied during ,the illness
of the organist, Miss Jean Ivison.

very much enjoyed.

cause of road conditions and ill-
ness. Thank-you letters were
read -by Mrs., E. McLean. Mrs.
G. Moffatt gave the visiting re-
port for the month, Mrs. R. Elgie
agreed to be the representative

Commit6e which is to be set
up. DiscusSion followed on our
self-determining allocation to the
U.C.W. for 1970 and the amount

CranbroOk Community Hail on
Friday, January-46th, when mem-,
'bers of the Cranbrook Dart Club
and their ladies gathered for an
evening of mixed darts. The group
32 in number, was evenly divided
into eight teams of two ladies and
two men to a team. When points
were tallied up at end of play, a
team captained byStewartSteiss,
• with Mrs. Jim Knight, ,Mrs. Lois
Houston and Gilbert Hetherington
had' won the most games. Lady
winning the most points was Mrs.
'Doug Rathwell with 12 paints,
• while most points for men was
won by Jim Hart with tp. Each
of ;the abovd-mentioned received
a box of ch6ColateS. Lunch was
served. . Arrangements for the
`event were made by Jack Knight
and Gordon Engel.
The Cranbrook Men's Dart
Club meets each Monday evening
in the hall. The 36 members are-
divided into eight teams, each
team being known by its captain's
name.
