BRUCE COUNTY
BOARD OF EDUCATION
11seems strange that after so many years of increased
costs and changes in our education system many parents are
disturbed about the quality of education received by their
children. On election day you have the opportunity to choose
one of four candidates as your representative to the County
Board of Education. To assist you in making your choice here
are a few things I believe:
1. That parents and taxpayers should be kept informed by
their own _representative through the cameos of their local
newspaper.
2. That where Parent Teacher Associations do not exist,• oc-
casional meetings should be held at your local school bet-
ween parents, teachers and board members for mutual ex-
change of ideas and information.
• 3 • That a greater use of community people and resources be
made m and out of the classroom to make studies more rel-
event to practical life outside the school.
4. That alternative means of education be developed • for the
disenchanted older students making little or no progress in
secondary schools.
•
5. That the present credit 'System in the secondary school re-
quires continuing consideration to ensure that students take
those courses having the greatest potential in serving their,
life needs. •
6. That the ability to write and speak good Flillsiish must be
given greater priority in both elemental& and secondary
school.
7. That Guidance services should be increased to assist young
people in their vocational planning at both the elementary
and secondary levels.
& That the continuing classroom experience of teachers be
greater utilized in currieulum planning by administ' relive and
board officials.
9. That a study should be made of the practicality of combining
present elementar# and secondary bus routes into a joint
system of feeder and express routes to lower costs and short-
en the time spent on busses by students_
Considering the hi4J t cost of our education system and
the enormous influence schools have on our children, the quality
of education cannot be ignored by the paying public. The Board
of Education is really only a group of your County neighbours
elected by you to administer the schools. Do your part by voting
fur the person you prefer.
If you el/Ouse me I will impartially represent the few
mUnicipalities and work on your behaff for the best education
of all our children.
