Died At Age 91
HERBER•T.ENSIGN
The death of Herbert Eli Ensign
of Lucknow, a retired farmer of the
Lochalsh area, occurred in Wing -
ham and District Hospital on
Wednesday, September 25th in his
92nd year.
He was born in Ashfield Town-
ship on April 15, 1883, 'a son of
Isaac D. Ensign and .Emily M.
Staley.
On November 2nd, 1911 in
Windsor he married Alice May
Ensign,. who predeceased him
some years ago.
The late Mr. Ensign in his early
years worked as a street car
conductor in Detroit. He then
farmed for 55 years, retiring 10
°'years ago to Lucknowwhere he
resided on Havelock Street ,South..
He led an active life until his recent
illness in July when he underwent
surgery in Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don
Mr. Ensign .had no family.
Besides his wife he was predeceas-
ed by one brother .Isaac S: Ensign
and three sisters, Mrs. Wm. John
(Valencia). McGuire, Mrs. Walter
(Ethald). Brown and Mrs. Charles
E. '(Mabel)' Smith..
The funeral servicewas held at
MacKenzie Memorial Chapel,
Lucknow . on Friday, September
27th. Rev. Cecil Carnochan of
Ripley United Church, of which the
deceased was a member, was
minister.
Pallbearers were Harry Lavis,
Robert Osborne, Oliver McCharles,
Walter Roulston, Jerry Fellows,
Dalton Wardell. .
Interment was in Lochalsh Cern-
etry.

Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Scholtz of
Goderich visited. with Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne Durnin and attended the
reception for newlyweds, Mr. and
Mrs.. Wayne Martin.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Peterson and
family of London were visitors on
Friday with Mrs. McNeil of West
Wawanosh and attended the rec-
eption in the Hall for newlyweds,
Mr: and Mrs. Wayne Martin,
Friday evening. „

Saturday visitors with her parents

family. Christine is attending
Marvel Hairdressing School in•

Brian" on Friday attended the
ploughing match near `Georgetown.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tiffin• on
Saturday evening arrived home by
bus from Biggar. Saskatchewan.
where they visited for three weeks
with her brother John Mirehouse
and her niece, Mrs. Sam Searson.
Mr. Searson and family. On the
trip home they visited a day in
Winnipeg with. Mr. and Mrs. Clark
Baker and with his mother Mrs.
Margaret Baker the former Mag.

organized by The Canadian National Institute for the Blind. A
, special rail leads the blind bowler to the correct position for
throwing a :strike.' Your generosity during the current financial
campaign will assist CNIB to organize recreation programs in
this community. •

year visited Australia and will have
much information to give the
members as all are interested in

Country Women of World meet this
fall.
LOCHALSH
On Friday last Mr. Herbert
Ensign. was laid to rest in the
Lochalsh Cemetery. on the corner
of his birthplace and farm. now
owned by Mr. and Mrs. Art
Matthewman. Mr. Ensign lived for
over 80 years on this same farm
before moving.- to Lucknow a few
years back. This farm will probably
always be remembered as the
Ensign farm with its large stone
house• built by the Ensigns many
years ago. Relatives and friends
from many areas, and distances
attended the funeral held in
Lucknow with • burial in Lochalsh
cemetery.
Mrs. Emile MacLennan spent a
few days in Sarnia with her
daughter Margaret and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Robb were
among the many who attended the
International Plough Match at
Georgetown on Friday.
With Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Finlayson for the week end and
attending Ripley Fair were daugh-
ter Barbara, her husband Bill. and
three sons and Paul and Jane
Emberlin, all of Toronto.
Many were the exhibitors with
hundreds of exhibits at .Ripley Fair
on Saturday. 'Among the principal
exhibitors were Mr. and Mrs. Art
Matthewman and Mr. and Mrs.
Ewan MacLean: - who won many
prizes with their vegetables .and
flowers which have been on sale to
the public from their "market
gardens all summer.
