Recreation. Activities are as
important for blind people as they
are for sighted people. • Exercise is;
particularly' helpful 'for developing
a blind person's sense of balance
and general well-being.
Because of longer .life• spans
there . are increasing numbers of
. elderly blind people. Many , are
retired and some have chronic
health ' problems or other disabilit=
ies. •
Through CNIB social clubs many
blind people have built warm
friendships and developed new
inteiests for their leisure time.
Games and special equipment have.
been developed for use by blind
people for nearly every form of
recreational activity from checkers
to bowling to square dancing.
CNIB also makes special ar-
rangements to encourage a blind
person to participate in existing
conimu.nity programs and often
acts as a liaison between the blind
person and' a ,specific community
resource. It also provides individ-
ual counselling for the newly blind
person to find interesting leisure
time occupations.
When your volunteer. canvasser
alls on you, please give generous-
ly to support CNiB's work for our
community. The canvass will again
this year be carried out by the
senior students at Lu.cknow Central
Public School.

BETS NICKEL

mail. Apparently . thefriend
thought that if. Scott. stuck with
him, through the ups and downs,
he should rescue " him in his
financial plight.
The gentleman who sent the
nickel to Scott was none other than
Robert Stanfield, leader of the
Progressive Conservative party and
the parliamentary opposition.
The letter received by Scott read
as follows:
LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION
September 9th, 1974.
Mr. Scott Fawthrop,
R. R. N o. 2,
Holyrood, Ontario.
Dear Scott,
1 would like to thank you for your
letter of July 29th and also thank
you for your costly support on
election night.
I am sending you the nickel you
lost on my behalf; it is a small price
to pay for your kind of confidence.
Although 1 would not advise you to
make any more political wagers, i
hope you will continue to take
interest in Canadian politics.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Stanfield
