took him in his first square dance at

An indication that Sandra Peter
was a winner with her friends, as
well as the judges, was the fact that.
the other fifteen girls in the
competition voted her Miss Cong-
eniality prior to the announcement
of the decision by the judges,
Second place winner in the
annual competition was Nancy
Gordon, 19, Miss Arran Township.
She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Allan Gordon of R. R. 2
Allenford. She is presently in her
second year at McMaster Univer-
sity. majoring in physical educa-
tion.
Third place in the competition
was won by Karen Ty )(Ian, 18,
Miss Clinton Winter Carn val. She
is a student nurse at Gue h, in her
first year, and is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Tyndall of R.
R. 4 Clinton.

winners, Lorie Ritchie, a native of
Teeswater and Listowel's entry in
last year's contest here, spoke a
few words. Loriewon the Miss
Midwestern Ontario title last year
and went on to place fourth in the
Miss Dominion of Canada. contest.
Sandra Campbell, who won the
Miss Dominion of Canada contest,
also was a contestant at Lucknow
last year and was entered as Miss
Zurich Bean Festival. Although
the judges at Lucknow did not place
her as•a winner, Sandra later won
another contest and continued on to,
win the Miss Dominion of Canada
award.
Bob Finlay acted as master of
ceremonies for the event and
Charles Webster, who for many
years has beenresponsible for the
success of this contest, was again
chairman of the planning of the
contest.
The first place winner received
SSO and the opportunity to Compete
in the Miss Dominion of Canada
contest. Second place winner
received S25 and the third place
S15. Each girl was presented with
a gift by Glen Walden, president of
the Agricultural Society.
Other contestants in the contest
were Mary Jane Icely representing
Port Elgin, Karen Downey, of
Drayton, Cheryl Webster of Clin-
ton, Brenda Dietz of Clifford,
Barbara Bender of Atwood, Ann.

THAT J.P. Johnstone of St.
Edmunds Township, Warden of
Bruce County, officially opened the
Lucknow Fall Fair on Saturday and
mentioned the fact that Lucknow
was 120 miles from his home, and
yet all were still residents of Bruce
County. J. P. stated that Lucknow
had gained a reputation for a fair 'a
little better than average for a
town its size'.
THAT. Mrs. Rod Campbell of
Lucknow observed her 91st birth-
day on Saturday, September 21st.
THAT,Mrs. Clarence Bell recently
sold her Havelock Street home in
Lucknow . to Fred Flanagan, a
teacher at Lucknow Central Public
School. Mr. and Mrs. Flanagan
and two children have taken up
residence there. Mrs. 'Bell is now
residing in an apartment on
William Street in Wingham. Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence Bell bought the
Lucknow home ten years ago from
Tenant Henderson. Mr. Bell's
death occurred about 11 years
ago. -
