Lucknow :C.G.I.T. held its first
•fall meeting on Monday evening
in the United Church', Twenty-
two girls, including eight new
:members enjoyed games with lead •
er Mrs. Lloya Nicholson. After
the sing -song, Mrs. Laura Lee Cay
ley showed the ancient symbol for
friendship. Verses and poems
about friends were read. •
After the opening •ceremonies,
the new girls were welcomed and
the new leader Miss Elizabeth
Ritchie was introduced. The
$2.0.0 membership fee is due on
September 30th, Used middies
will be available to new members.
The offering 'was received and a •
report on funds was given.
Four letters from ourfoster
child , Marleny in Peru were read.
Money -making ideas , crafts and
other activities'for the yearwere
discussed.
It was decided to havea cook-
out on Lake Huron beach next
Monday. Cars will leave the
church at 5.30.
The girls• divided into three
groups by age and grade and dis-
cyssed further plans for the year

Women met at Donnybrook Unit-
ed Church on Tuesday afternoon,
September 10.
Caroline Snowden opened the -�
meeting with Hymn 405.
Margaret Hildebrandread the
scripture taken from Luke , chap-
ter 16 , verses 19-31,from the new
Living Testament andfollowed by
prayer. Margaret Hildebrand
read a Hymn "0 Crucified
Redeemer" from the new Hymn
book. ,
A film was then shown from
Man Alive called "Love has no
Doubt" with Mother Teresa and
Jean Vanier in it. She worked
among the poor and crippled in
Calcutta and Vanier worked am-
ong the retarded.. They also work-
ed together at times.
Caroline Snowden read a poem
"Listen Christian". She then con-
ducted the business in the absence
of the president., .Jean Johnston
gave a report on supplies. June
Robinson gave a card report and
handed ,out new. catalogues. It
was decided to serve sandwich-
es and sweets, for the lunch follow-
ing anniversary services.
Following' Hymn 354 the meet-
ing was closed with .prayer. • Host-
esses Lois Chamney and Eileen
Jefferson served a dainty lunch.

Trinity United Church Women
held their first regular meeting for
the fall. on September 12, in the
church basement, with an attend-
ance of 22 ladies and one child.
The meeting came to order with the
singing of the first two verses of
Holy, Holy, Holy, and then all
repeated ' the Lord's prayer in
mnison..
The • president, Mrs. Charles
Wilkins read two poems'. The roll
call was answered with a favourite
proverb. The topic for the
devotions was 'Jesus the Door to
Salvation', Prayer was taken by
Mrs. Cliff Menary and Mrs. Jim
Arnold read the scripture. Hymn
169. 'Behold a Stranger at the
Door', was followed by the medita-
tion by Mrs. Menary, and prayer
by Mrs. Arnold.
The first verse of 'Abide with
Me' was followed by•an illustration
of the' use of Doors in Bible
teaching. ' The leaders were
assisted by Mrs. Douglas Cameron
singing 'Oh Jesus Thou art Stand-
ing', Mrs. D. A. Hackett speaking
on the 'Door of My Lips', Mrs.
Donald Hackett, 'The Door of
Hope'. Mrs. Cliff Menary,'the
Door of Faith'. and Mrs. Alex
Hackett 'The Door of Opportunity'.
'Mrs. Arnold had a short passage
on the Bible and Mrs. Menary
closed the devotions with a prayer
and the last two verses of Abide
With Me was sung.
Mrs. Ken Alton gave a reading
'The Heart is a Garden'. Mrs.
Frank Ritchie gave the Bible, Study
on the meaning of 'The Holy
Trinity' and asked a few ,thought
provoking questions. Hymn 27 'Oh
Worship the King' was sung.
- The business portion of the
meeting followed and then Mrs.
Ken Alton gave the Trinity Tattler.
Hymn 50, the last two verses of
Holy, Holy. Holy was sung and
Mrs. Cookclosed the meeting with
prayer., following which the corn-
mittee in charge served a dainty
lunch.

Lucknow U.C.W. Thankoffering
was held in the church Sunday
evening, September 8. Mrs.
Raynard Ackert presided and wel-
comed U.C.W. members from Pine
River, Ripley, Trinity and White-
church. Hymn 27 opened the
devotional after which Mrs. Ackert
led in prayer and read scripture
from Matthew 5: 38-48. Mrs: V.
J. Hunter presented the meditation
which reminded all that one cannot
set his Christian ideals and stand-
ards too high. • Mrs. Harvey
Houston offered prayer. A duet by
Mrs. Perrin Lowry and Mrs. Bill
Scott accompanied by Mrs. Lynn'
Lowry was much appreciated. The
offering was received by Mrs. W. G
Hunter, Mrs. Bert Alton, Mrs,
Ewart Taylor and Mrs: C. G. Greer
and dedicated by Mrs. Earl Wight -
man.. Mary Ellen Havens favoured
with am piano instrumental.
The guest speaker, Mrs. Hilda
Toll of Toronto, was introduced by
Mrs. Glen Walden. Mrs. Toll is a
very ,'active member of Parkdale
United Church, a Past President of
Toronto West Presbyterial and
Toronto Conference to mention a
few of her church offices. She
operates a photography business in
Toronto, a very busy, talented and
enthusiastic person. She has. had
the opportunity to travel extensive-
ly and is extremely interested in
U.C.W. work and the church as a
whole. Her message was based on
the theme 'What does the church
mean to us?' Speaking from
personal experience and from so
much involvement with others in,
promoting the work Of the church
she made her audience realize it
should and can • mean
a great deal. She urged everyone
to share their common faith with
all, to be enthusiastic, committed
to their work anfl to be thankful for
their church. Mrs. Gordon Cayley
thanked Mrs. Toll for her very
impressive message.

social time followed .in the fellow-
ship room.
During the time Mrs. Toll, was
President of Toronto West Presby-
terial she played a major part in
the: publishing 'of a book entitled
Patchwork Pieces. Many took the
opportunity of purchasing one of
these. The • demand was greater
than the supply. •
