BARN BURNS
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1
Fire , breaking out about 7 p.m.
on Saturday, completely levelled
the large barn on the property as
well as a driving shed to the north.
Lost in the blaze were a tractor
with front-end loader, a half
dozen chickens, half dozen. ducks,
2248 bales of hay and a small
quantity of straw. Lost from the
driving shed were a post
hole auger, sprayer, fertilizer and
all the small farm tools. A few
items were saved from the driving
shed.
Two silos stood to the south of
the barn. The large silo was not
damaged. Some damage resulted
to the small silo. A large shed
to the south-east was saved and,
firemen also kept the house wetted
down as• it was in the path of
embers carried by the stiff wind
blowing at the time.
A swimming pool on the proper-
ty was a source of water supply
for Lucknow Fire Department.
The Ripley -Huron water tanker

The children; playing outside
at the time, were the first to not-

ot-ice the fire. While it is not •
known for sure , it, is' believed that
combustion in the hay caused the
outbreak. The barn was beyond
saving in a matter of minutes and
was a raging inferno by the time
firemen arrived at the scene.
