On September 3 Unit 3, Luck -
now United Church Women met
at the home of Mrs. George Jar-.
dine.
Mrs. Glen Walden opened the
meeting with a poem "September
Days". After, singing , 0 For a
Thousand Tongues to Sing, the
Lord's Prayer was repeated.
Mrs. Bert Alton had charge of
the program using the theme
Friendship. The scripture from
Luke 10 was read by Mrs.
E. W. Rice. Mrs. Alton conclud-
ed with prayer.
Two readings "God is standing
there with you" and "No time for
prayer" were given by Mrs. W. H.
Humphrey , after which "0 Master
let me walk with Thee" was sung.
An interesting skit, "St. Peter ,
Look at Me" was presented by
Mrs. Bert Alton as St, Peter. Mrs. •
Glen Walden, Miss Ada Webster
and Mrs. Eldon Bradley, women
waiting for admission to Heaven,
each gave her various merits, but
St. Peter reminded them of their
shortcomings.
Readingsl, "Friendship" and
"Did you give Him a lift" were
given by Mrs. E. Taylor. Mrs.
Alton gave the synopsis of an art-
icle Concerning the work of Dr.
McClure. The roll call was an-
swered by sixteen members, nam-
ing the first school she attended
and the teacher.
Announcements were made
of the induction of Rev. Doug.
Kaufman September 5 and U.C, W.
Thankoffering September 8.
Mrs. McDonald made arrange-
ments for lunch to be served at
these functions. Mrs. J. Ritchie
reported for Community Friend-
ship and Mrs. Drennan for
Christian and Missionary Educa-
tion. There was a discussion re-
garding/a Fowl Supper.
The meeting closed with a
hymn and the Mizpah Benedic-
tion. Lunch was served.
Unit 4 U.C.W.
The September meeting of Unit
4,.Lucknow United Church Wom-
en, was held at the home of Mrs.
Herb Barger. Unit leader, Mrs.
Leonard Ritchie, opened the meet.
ing with a reading "Recipe for
Happiness". Fourteen members
answered the roll call with a
penny per pound of weight. The
offering was received and the
treasurer reported $21.85 was rais-
ed at June Bake Sale and receipts
to date are $254.23. The com-
ing events of this week are the
Induction Service for the minister,
the Reverend Doug Kaufman on
Thursday, September 5 and the ,
Fall Thankoffering on Sunday,
September 8.
Mrs. Roy Havens, for Social
Functions , thanked the ladies who
helped at June events and asked
for donations for the corning ones.
The decision to have a Fowl
Supper this year was discussed
and voted on. Mrs. Stuart Colly-
er read an Observer article for
Citizenship and Social Action.
The program was introduced by
Mrs. Robert Finlay with a quote
from Martin Luther King. Hymn
16 was sung accompanied by
Mrs. Herb Barger on the accord - /
ian. The group members shared
their thoughts on the values of
life by reading their "I want to
live because..." cards. Mrs.
Lloyd Ashton read the scripture ,
Matthew 6: 24-33 and the last
verse was discussed. The mem-
bers divided into three groups to
discuss the topics Natural Reserves,
Gaps in the World today and Rac-
ism and Poverty. Reports were
given from each and facts on
each topic were read by Mrs.
Lloyd Ashton and Mrs. William
Graham. Prayer, Hymn 240 and'
the benediction closed the pro-
gram.
The ladies tested their know-
ledge by doing a Bible Quizz.
Lunch was then served By the corn.

Rally Sunday At
Lucknow Church
Rally Sunday for Lucknow Pres-
byterian Church Sunday School
was marked Sunday with members
of the Sunday'Sdhool all attending
church service.
Sunday School members assisted
in the service. Tom Henderson
gave the call to worship. Marion
Raynard read the Old Testament
lesson and Grant Gilchrist read the
responsive lesson. Debbie Searle
read the New Testament lesson.
• Instrumental violin numbers
were presented by Kevin Machan
of Lucknow , Jack Whytock of •
Whitechurch and Kevin Hogarth of
Bluevale, accompanied by Mrs.
Ross Hogarth. The boys are violin
pupils of Dr. James Little of Luck -
now.
John Henderson has been serving
as organist during the summer
months, filling in for Mrs. Wm.
Scott who has been hospitalized
and underwent surgery.

Unit 1, Lucknow United Church
Women held their regular meet-
ing on Wednesday. September the
4th at 2 o'clock at the home of
Mrs. Peter Cook. Mrs. Sam Gib-
son opened the meeting with a
poem, Hours to buy. The hymn
Breathe on me breath of God
was sung followed by prayer .
Mrs. Allan Johnston wished to con
vey her thanks to the group for
their help at social functions in
June. Mrs. W. G. Hunter agreed
to be the new social functiOns
leader and Mrs. Nelson Raynard
to assist for Unit 1 to replace Mrs.
Clarence Bell who.has moved aw-
ay.
Mrs. Walter Dexter gave a
reading on community friendship
and report on visits made to shut
ins. Mrs. Al Irwin had a reading
on Stewardship. •
The roll call was answered by
18 members and 6 visitors telling
the first church they had attended.
Unit 1 is responsible for the
flowers in the church for Septem-
ber and Mrs. W. G. Hunter asked
for volunteers for flowers and
arrangements.
Mrs. Peter Cook gave the treas-
urer's report and the thankoffer-
ing envelopes were given out.
The annual fowl supper was dis-
cussed , asking who was in favour
of continuing.the supper or who
would rather give a donation and
the group decided in favour of the
supper.
• Mrs. Lorne Woods opened the
devotional of the meeting and
we repeated the "23rd psalm" in
unison followed by the hymn
"The King of Love My Shepherd
Is" and Mrs. Al Irwin gave the
meditation on Psalm 23, follow-
ed by prayer by Mrs. Nelson Rayn-
ard and a reading by Mrs. Bob
Helm "My son starts to schciol" .
Mrs. Lorne Woods then called
on Mrs. Bert Alton who had spent
3 months in Australia last winter
and gave a splendid talk on the.
climate, industries, people and
churches of that country which
was enjoyed very much. Mrs.
Nelson Raynard thanked Mrs.
Alton and presented her with a
small gift.
Mrs. Wes Ritchie favoured with
an instrumental and Mrs. Sam
Gibson closed the meeting with
hymn 589 and Rev. Douglas Kauf-
man pronounced the benediction.

Gibson gave the offertory prayer.

the Seniors and Mrs. Purdon gave
the Junior story. The roll call
was answered with a Bible verse
with the word Harvest by the 13
