Alex Purdon d At Age 96 ident of the Whitechurch Mrs. Alekander don passed away at the m and District Hospital ay, .August 15, follow - 'el illness. She was in her in Culross Township, County, on January 25, Purdon was the former tina Ann ' MacKay, a r of the late Hector Mac - Catherine MacDOnald. married Mr. Purdon in ureh in 1899. and he ed her. ving are four daughters, Robert (Catherine Jane) ay of Whitechurch, Mrs, (F(orence) Maclntyre and Jack (Clara) , Cleghorn lof Wingham and Mrs. le (Isabel) Tiffin of Luck- 1iree sons, William E. m of Detroit, Athol Purdon ma and Hector Donald al of Strathroy; 22 grand- ly. children; 38 great-grandchildren and five great -great-grand- children. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. George (Catherine) Markle- of Vancouver, Agnes MacKay and Bertha. MacKay of London; and one brother, Rev. Angus MacKay of London. She was predeceased by one son Robert in infancy; four brothers, John MacKay, Dan MacKay, Charles MacKay and Gordon.MacKay; and two sisters, Etta and Sarah. She was a member of the Pres- byterian Church and a life member of the Women's Mis- sionary Society. The late Mrs. Purdon rested at the R. A. Currie and Son Funeral Home where service was con- ducted at three. o'clock Saturday by Rev. Victor Wybenga. Mrs. Bill Gibson sang an appropriate solo. Interment followed in Wing - ham Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Cleg- horn, Angus Falconer, Relison Falconer, Grant MacIntyre, Bilk Maclhtyre and Hugh MacMillan. Carrying floral tributes were Raymond Purdon, Roy Grant, Rev. Bosveld and Dave Belanger. Week end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Oliver McCharles were Mr. and Mrs. Vince Mountford and Mr. Jack Ayres of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCharles and family of Chatham. •Miss Margo Matthewman of Guelph and Doug Matthewman who recently returned from 'work- ing in Western Canada , spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Art Matthewman. It's back to school for many and a oeginning for others. Little Donald Martyn will be off to Kindergarten at Brookside. Sev - eral from the area will be attend- ing different schools, among them Parnela McIntosh who will be attending .Ripley. School. Mark Johnston of Detroit spent a few holidays with his uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Dunc Parrish. David Parrish visited with his par- ents also. • Mr. Dan Wylds has a beautiful garden again this year and has • been most generous in giving veg- etables to friends and, neighbours.
