"One Of Those Days"
A series of events starting, early
Saturday had some awkward end-
ings for a variety of people.
A police chase of an automo-
bile in the early hours of Satur-
day
atur-day morning, ended at 'the United
Church corner when the auto and.
police cruiser were in collision
and ended up on the church lawn.
The mishap cuased the stop sign
at the corner to be knocked out
and the town foreman was contact-
ed and advised- to have the sign
•replaced . •
In case you think that all is
roses in the village works depart-
ment , the foreman Cliff
Crawford received two calls about
the stop sign, onein the middle
of the night and the second as he
was going out the door to work
between 6 and 7 a.m. Saturday
morning.
In replacing the sign, Cliff and
Doug Haldenby decided to move
it slightly to a new hole in the
ground , but the spot they chose
happened to be right over a major
trunk line for Bell Telephone lints
in the area.
Cliff and Doug quickly realized
that they had picked a bad piece
of ground when they set the fire
alarm off shortly after 7 a.m. in
attempting to sink a new hole for
the stop sign. •
By 8 a.m. the alarm had gone
three times and in addition, the
first thrust had put all the phones
out in town.
By this time, the twosome were
probably thinking.of leaving
town and had to do just that,
to find a "working phone".to call;
in the .Bell repair crew.
After several unsuccessful uies
to find a phone in town; they wen
west on Highway 86 and used Bob
McIntosh's phone near Lochalsh to
phone the Beil repair crew.
The Bell crew spent most of
their holiday week end Saturday,
Sunday and Monday repairing the
damaged lines and had to get
power machinery on the jobtodig
a large hole at the church coiner
to get at their problems.
