Ab Tout's Old Time Fiddle Jamboree held in the audi- torium of the Ripley District High School was the last of the corn- munity,get-togethers over the week end. The auditorium was jammed to the doors and these doors were opened Perhaps it was fitting that the music of Murray McDonald's bag pipes and the sweet lilting music of the singing fiddles came up the quiet streets of Ripley en the calm summer evening air as the writer walked home after. ten. Mr. . Tout deserves praise for his. work in organizing and conducting this Jamboree as an event to gath- er. some funds for the 1975 Ripley Huron Old Boys Reunion. He made the plans for it and everyone just'co-operated with hila in what- ever way was suited to their tal- ents. Those attending' came from a• wide area and included 'several visitors home here. Also thea violin players, dancers and other musicians were from near and far. The ladies on the Reunioncommit- tee served there lunch after the Jamboree. • Registering the players taking, part was Chester •Eninicrton of Pine River, Norman Dunsmoor was on, the school stage in his dual role as M.C.- and entertainer with his Songs,' spicy stories and Scottish kilts. In charge of the sale of the 1975 Reunion hats was Mrs. Elaine (Wally) Pollock and on the ticket sales were Reg Moore and Ab. Wylds. Getting extra chairs and helping with Many other details were school caretak- er Murdock McDonald, Reunion. chairman, Don MacTavish, Jack Farrell and many others. Elaine also assisted with the registrations.. while Chester was on stage and ' ,helping her at these times was Mrs. Marjorie (Kenny) MacDon- ald. A full list of the players will be ready for the •next printing of the Sentinel. On in the evening people who had brought their violins along were volunteering to. play by just passing their names to the stage. A Jamboree is differ- ent to a competition in that there reside in Toronto. is no judging - everyone just has a good time. Some local players were Mr. and Mrs. George Mc- Donald, Murray McDonald', Glenn Boyd, Mrs. Chester Emmertori, Cliff Emmerton, Bob Courtney, Ab Tout; Mrs. Joy McLean, Wal- ter Collins, Elliott Carruthers, Mrs. George llarkness, Frank Scott, Finlay MacDonald, Aurel Armstrong, Jack Peterbaugh and many others. It was a very enjoyable evening - a fitting end to the big week end which started on Friday noon with the Arts and Crafts Festival. boldt will spendan indefinite time with her mother , Mrs. Osborne. They flew from Kitchen- er to Fort ,Chimp - a northern air base. This is an area where the Eskimos live. Jerry was up last year also.and reports good fishing, 0 •O 0 0 0 Mr, and• Mrs. Jing Moirier of HaMilton are at their Ripley home for a few weeks. .Also here is Jim's brother Percy - all three are former residents, of Ripley. • a 0 Mrs. Elizabeth Osborne of Kil naalcom near Glasgow in Scotland returned oto Toronto after spending some time visiting. with her girl- hood chum•Mrs. Helen (Nellie) MacLeod in Ripley., Mrs. Mac- Leod also went to Toronto with •Mrs. Osborne. On August 2,9 Mrs. Osborne will fly from Toronto to Prestwick and thence home. MacLeod and Mrs. Lilian'Hogben, Mrs. MacLeod's mother. • • 0 0 Featured 'in three different large pictures of a recent edition of the Brantford Expositor newspaper was Miss Barbara Munn. Barbara is a registered nurse working with the V.O.N. in Brantford. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Munn of Stoney Creek, and Bruce Beach. Gordon, formerly of Rip- ley, and Henry -J. Down, formerly of Kincardine called in Ripley last week - Wednesday. Luckily Fran was here - beekeepers are seldom around. Gordon is the head of the math department in Saltfleet District Secfondary School while Henry, former Kin- cardine beekeeper, taught for ONTINUED ON PAGE 9
