Garnet Farrier of Whitechurch had broken into the music composing field and. his first song, "Just Remember" , was on sale in music stores in the district. Garn- et composed both the words and music. The song was published and copyrighted by a company in New Westminster , B.C. The 10th: anniversary of D -Day , when the Allies stormed the bloody Normandy beaches to launch the thrust that was to ultim- ately bring an end to. World War Il, was marked by a Legion par- ade to St. Peter's Anglican Church. The death of Dr, W. M. Con- nell of Wingham occurred sudden- ly following a coronary. Dr. Connell, who was 58 years of age , was medical doctor in Lucknow from 1921 to 1934 when he took o� er the office and practice of the late Dr. Margaret Calder of Wing - ham. 40 YEARS AGO JUNE 1934 Dr. A. M. Spence, a prominent business and professional citizen of Lucknow for thirty years,.. passed away on June 2nd at Oshawa. Dr. Spence carne to Lucknow in 1902 0.P.P. KINCARDINE At 9.50 p.m. May 31 Constable Jackson investigated an accident on Conc. 2, Kincardine Twp. , involving a vehicle operated by opening up a drug and stationery store. For a number of years he was Medical Officer of Health in the community and was also local 'manager of the Bell Tele- phone exchange. In 1931 he sold his drug and stationery business to F. M. Paterson.. The heat and drought of the first week in June was causing much concern in the district. Pastures in many cases were bare and stock was being grassed on the roadside. Cool weather in May retarded_ growth and the total rainfall according to official weather observer J, M. Greer, amounted to 1.53 inches: The first day of June the mercury soared to 92 degrees with similar high temperatures recorded for the week. 60 YEARS AGO JUNE 1914 Austin Solomon , who had prev- iously bought out the tinsmith departments of both hardware stores , was opening up his own tin shop in the Graham Block. Harry Tucker from Port Burwell was engaged as assistant. Marshall Graham was opening a "Dime Store" in the village.
