winter the society sponsored a bus
trip to the annual Toronto Flower
Short at the O'Keefe Centre. In
charge of the arrangements for
this trip were Mrs. Connie van
der Hoek and Mrs. Bette. MacLeod,

A relative shower for the "bride
to be"; Miss Ruth Rock of Ripley,
was held by ,her sister Mrs. Tom
Broome of R. R. 3 Auburn on
Tuesday evening of last week. An
evening of games and accordian
music by both the bride and the
hostess, (Ruth and Rose) was en-
joyed.

Campbell of Story, Wyoming, U.
S.A. , and formerly of Detroit
visited his cousin Mrs. Francis
Gemmell,
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harris of

The June meeting of the Ripley
Agricultural Society was held on
Monday evening of last week with
vice president Morley, Scott of the
Purple Grove area in charge.' Pres-
ident. Hugh Mason was in Kincar-
dine and District Hospital recov-
ering from an appendectomy.
Present were Francis Boyle, Bruce
Aitken, Jim Needham, Alan Mc-
Lean, Mrs. Gladys Arnold , Mrs.
Marjorie Thompson, Bob' Rutledge,
Mr. and Mrs. Russ Brooks;Jack
Farrell, Austin Martin, Lester. Fer-
guson and Ab Wylds,. Mrs. Brooks
reported on ordering prize ribbons
for the fair. Mrs. Arnold gave a

to the Ripley Huron and District

ttecently, Henry J. Down of
Stoney Creek and formerly of
Kincardine sent us a copy of the
special issue of the Stoney Creek
News "The official Souvenir
Flag Week Edition". This paper
gives the program which was
held in Stoney Creek, east of
Hamilton, in celebration of Flag
Meek ' the first week in June.
It also gives a detailed account
of the battle of Stoney Creek in
1812 from which the American
Army retreated.
Mr. Down wasa teaching
member of the Mathematics Dep-
artment at Saltfleet High.
School for a number of years.
Gordon Munn from Ripley is head
of this math department. Now
retired , Henry continues to reside
at his home in Stoney Creek and
takes a keen interest in several
hobbies. Prior to, going to Stoney
Creek he taught at Walkerton,
Port Elgin and Kincardine. For
years before. entering the
profession of high school teach-
ing he was the commercial bee-
keeper at Kincardine.

This year the Happy Hearts Club

London with Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Hutton. .
Mrs. Leonard Courtney held a
relative shower for Wendy Court-
ney Saturday.
Miss Margaret Anne Courtney
held a girl friends shower for
Wendy Courtney on Sunday after-
noon.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Pace had a
picnic for the Campbell families
of Tiverton and Gottschalk famil-
ies from around Tiverton.
There will be a community
shower for Wendy Courtney Wed-
nesday evening in Reid's Corners
Hall.
Reid's Corners Women's Institute
are going on a bus trip to Toronto,
on June 25th.
25th ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Reid hada
a good crowd to help celebrate
their 25th Wedding Anniversary
in Reid's Corners Hall Friday ev-
ening on June 14.

more, beautiful. Members saw
Paisley's historic buildings, Arran
Lake, Southampton Museum and
Sauble Falls. The Park nearby
was a lovely place for a picnic
lunch. Then they went along the
west side of Bruce with its natural
beauty of trees, water and, wild
flowers. Some had never been to
Tobermory and this was the next
stop. This year the Tub is hum-
ming with all the construction but
no sign of completion yet. The
Big Tub was visited and all were
amazedat the size although they
had heard the British Navy could
anchor there safely.' The crafts
and paintings done by local.
people are lovely. A side trip to
Lions Head let folks try to depict
the Lion which has eroded through
the years and it not so clear. 'A
large meteorite near the area
made us all .want to see it closer. -
Supper was enjoyed at Wiarton
and a call made on friends at Gate
way Haven and then home by
Gould Lake, Chesley Lake, Pais-
ley and Glarnmis making a most
enjoyable day. The organization
was in charge of Mrs. Violet Mac-
Kenzie and Miss Ada Gawley.
Reg Moore and his song -books are
a happy additionto any trip. Mrs.
Wm. Arnold was commentator.
Tentative plans were made to
attend the Senior Citizens picnic
at Owen Sound on July 10th:
