It was on June '1st , .1942 , following the untimely death of her husband , whom she married in 1934, that • Mrs: Morrey came to Wingham as Lady Superintendent for the then 18-bed hospital which was founded in 1906 by the late Dr. John Ken- nedy. Later in 1942 Mrs. Morrey start- ed a school• for nursing assistants to ease the shortage of nurses in the hospital. When the Registered Nursing Assistant program came into force under the Hon. Russell T. Kelly, Minister of Health, this program was modified to' conform io that of the Province of Ontario. In 1969 the school moved into the present building erected by the Ontario Hospital Services Com- mission on the hospital complex. This provides excellent facilities for the training Of 24 nursing assist ants yearly. Always a firm believer in con-. tinuing education Mrs. Morrey' has been instrumental in encour-, aging many of the staff to partic- • ipate in the various short courses and seminars offered. Mrs, MOrrey has been a member of the Ontario abspital Association and the• .Canadian Hospital Association since 1963. Prior to 1966 when she was admitted to the American College of Hospital Administrators and the American Academy of Medical Administrators, Mrs. Morrey graduated froin the Univ- ersity of Manitoba in Winnipeg with full honors in hospital admin- istration. She is also a member of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives and the Natiotr al:Purchasing Committee. Over the ,years she has also taken an active part in the hospital adinin- istrator's section of District Num- Bob McKinley Is Nominated hi Huron - Middlesex Robert McKinley, 44, of Zur- ich, who has represented Huron riding since 1965 for the Progres- sive Conservative Party, was ac- claimed Thursday night to seek re-election in the July 8 federal election in the newly named Huron-Middlesex riding. In his acceptance speech, Mr. McKinley said the federal govern- ment's agricultural legislation was too little too late. He cited the beef subsidy, pro- gram as a waste of money be- cause "shortly after, the price of beef drOpped the same amount as the subsidy,"• proving the subsidy program wasn't needed. A cattle import quota system would have been prefaable to the ban, he said , adding, "we've got to get along with our neigh- bours (U.S.) as well as look after ourselves." After Fairy Queen Tracey Mc-, Donagh placed the Toadstool, we had Brownie Ring. At Pow. Wow we sang Happy Birthday to the Brownies who have their birthdays in the holidays. They were Annita Damsma , Rosa- lea Cameron, Lila Purves and Sandra Campbell. Michele Hum- phrey showed the tulip she had planted and was in bloom. During work period the Gnomes and Sprites wrote-a thank-you note to Mr. Greer for letting us have our Brownie Revel at his farm'. "Meals on Wheels" also has been a hobpital service fbr several years. As she retires from this execu- tive position it is the wish of all staff members of the various departments in the hospital, and residents Of Wingham and the surrounding townships which the hospital has served for decades, that she may enjoy many years of relaxation in her garden and the freedom to enjoy travel and peruse her many hobbies, typical of her wide range of interests.
