On Tuesday evening of last
week a bus load and several cars
of supporters went to Mount Forest
to attend the final game of the
series between Ripley and Mount
Forest Juvenile hockey teams.
Going into the game the teams '
were tied at one win apiece. Con-
gratulations go,to the Ripley team
on' winning this game and the
W.O.A.A. trophy. The score was
Ripley 6 and Mount Forest 3.
Recently Burton Collins return-
ed home from London, England
where he has been with his sister
Helen and husband, Mr. and Mrs.
Jerome 'Schmidt of 'Mildmay.
They remained as Jerome is still
in 'hospital there.

Other guest visitors on this opca-
sion were Cecil Campbell, also
Of Tiverton and from Kincardine
Floyd Weick and Ian Munro. Fol-
lowing the business, lunch was
served by the Ripley lodge and, a
social "get-together" was enjoyed.

Funeral services were held last
Wednesday afternoon at the Mc-
Lennan-McCreath Home in Ripley
for the lite Hector MacKay of
Walkerton. Interment was in' the
Ripley cemetery. Hector spent
his 'early years at the family farm
on concession six east in Huron
Township. S1ympathy is extended
to all family relatives and espec-
ially to his five surviving brothers,
namely Allister and Grant •of con-
cession six east in Huron
Township, Elmer of Ripley, Wil-
mer of Kincardine and Calvin, of
Windsor.

The -annual brief of the Nation-
al Farmers Union was presented
to the Ontario Government on
April 18 in Toronto.
About 150 members represent-
ing all Locals in Ontario, crowd-
ed into the Ontario room in, the
McDonald Building as Walter
Miller, Vice President .of the
N.F.U. made the submiSsion to
Hon. Wm. Stewart, Minister of •
Agriculture and other ministers.
The'Ontario Government was
urged" to 'support a request Made by
the N.F.U. to the Federal. Minist-
er of Agriculture to convene a con-
ference with the Provincial Minis-
ters of Agticulture and interested
groups for the purpose of arriving
at adquate levels of price Support
and stabili2e livestock, poultry
and dairy producers
against continued excessive losses.
Also requested was support for
the reinstatement of the Canadian
Wheat Board as the sole marketing
agendy for all grain marketed dom•
mercially, and that responsibility
of the Wheat Board be transferred
to the Department of Agriculture.
The Wheat Board is now under
Hon. Otto Lang Minister of Just-
ice.
There was harsh criticism of
alleged dishonest,
deceitful tactics used in exprop-
riating land froM farmers, Ontario
Hydro being a prime example.
Frequently prime' agricultural
land is' expropriated when poorer
land is available.
Mr. Miller, expressed the con-
cern of the: N.F.P. over the un-
checked trend of large internation•
al dairy porporations gaining
monopoly control in the dairy
processing industry. This situa
don is not good for farmers or
consumers.. A National Marketing
Agency is needed for dairy prod-
ucts.
The N.F.U. agreed with a
committee recommendation-that
a Farm Index be established which
would give accurate information
of the number of practicing farm-
ers in Ontario, and provide in-.
sight into the degree, of land specu-
lation which exists. All agricul7

lic forum is planned by the Arth-

for this area including .Lucknow ,
Ripley , Kincardine and the sur-
rounding townships. In charge
will be Dr. Don Milne of Kincar-
dine and there will be a panel.

This past week Brian Dewar ,
working under the direction of
village foreman Ambrose Gamble,
swept the main streets. Then he
used the 'village truck to haul
away the piles of dirt and debris
which accumulated' during the past
winter. Gusty spring winds at "
times hampered Brian's job, how-
ever now the streets look clean
again.
