Allan, as a member of the staff of the Bank of Commerce in down• town London, at the corner of Wellington Street on Duridai, was at work when 'two with bank rob- bers entered and with drawn guns demanded the cash. The bank vault was still closed by its time lock:- a fact Which the two men could not understand. However they' took, over eleven thousand dollars as it was. Fleeing in a car'; they were cap tured by police in a traffic "tie- up" as the alarin got out cniickly. Allan, home to Ripley for the week end , was still somewhat shaken by 'the robbery. O * 0 O * 0 * On Friday evening the Ripley Midgets won the opening game in the play off series with Grand Bend. And on Saturday afternoon the Ripley Juveniles won their first home game in the All Ontario finals in the Juvenile E divisiOn with a 7 to 6 score over Port Car- ling. In Ripley Speaking contest sponsored by 'the Lions' was held in the Ripley Dist- rict High School auditorium with the Deputy District Governor Richard Erb of Zurich as chairman. A fair crowd was in attendance.. There were two divisions - one for the girls and one for the boys. The judges who placed the winners - were from Lucknow ; Wingham and Tiverton. Placing first in the. girl's section was Mary Edith Garn- iss of the F. E. Madill Second- ary 'School in WirIghafri with Susan Crawford of the Walkerton District Secondary School runner up. In the boys section it was Rob Stewart of Kincardine District High School the winner with Rick Snell of the Central Htiron School in Clinton runner up. The winners next will speak in Atwood on April 19. Taking advantage of the fine weather last Saturday the dismantling of the carpentry work- shop of the late John Robertson was completed. It was carried out by Dave Henderson of,Ripley, , Fred Henderson of fine River and Donald Gillies of the tenth of Huron, also assisting was Gary Henderson.
