HIGHER TAXES
Huron County taxpayers can
look for a substantial hike in the
amount of money paid for county
services. 'The rate set recently.
.at county council indicates that
an additional 5 1/2 be
required to meet county expenses
this year.
Last year , the county council
used a built-up surplus to hold the
tax rate at that tizte, and taxpay7
ers will pay up for this bit of book
juggling when they pay their 1974
taxes.
:There is no reason to believe
that county councillors can pull
any miracles out of the hat when
it comes to paying their bills.
.They are faced with the same
ever increasing costs that meet
everyone else in day to day busi-
ness and in turn, this- must be re-
flected in higher taxes.
Without adding any additional
services, the cost of maintaining
the ones presently in force are
mounting in leaps and bounds.
So we may groan a little when
we get our tax notices, but set -
ious contemplation on the matter
will indicate to us that tax rates
are governed by costs of services,
and we know very well that no-
one in this present day could think
of holding costs at an. even level
without cutting back drastically
on services. And we wouldn't
like that either , would we?

Bob McKinley, member of par- •
liarrient for. Huron Riding , has •
listed a private member's bill in
parliament to have Huron Riding
change its name to Huron-Middle-
sex.
In the last redistribution, sever-
annunicipalities in MiddleseX
were added to Huron Riding.
In press reports presently circul=
ating about the proposed change,
it has several times been stated
that "HurOn Riding includes all of
the County of Huron, except the
village of Lutknow".
This paper has commented on
this misrepresentation before.
Apparently, .in the official rid-
ing boundary records, this is the
way Hilton Riding is described.
Bruce also has a peculiar foot note
about "including the village of
Lucknow".
The last five 'words in the
above. description are misleading
and. meaningless. Anyone who,
has made it a point to study his
geography knows that the village
of .Lucknow is'not in Huron •
County, but has been in Bruce for
close to 1.00 years. However, by
the peculiar phrasing, one is
led to believe that Lucknow is in
the County of Huron.
Think about it,. "The riding in-
cludes all of the County of Huron
except the village of Lucknow".
Doesn't that completely mis-
lead the reader about.where Luck-
now, is situated geographically?
