SHORTAGES
Most -people in business today
are coping with a new nuisance
— 'shortages. Many commodities
are scarce because oil and ,gas
became scarce. Many are' scarce
because of panic buying; one
fellow bought twice as much fert-
ilizer as -he needed because it
was scarce; a.normal - two week
supply of toilet paper was bought
out of a supermarket in one' day
because it was reported that
toilet paper was scarce.
Farming is more difficult in
1974 because, of shortages. Here
are some suggestions to help you
through the growing season.
FERTILIZER AND WEED
SPRAYS
would 'suggest you take de-.
livery as soon as possible rather •
than depend on the dealer to pro-
vide storage until needed. Also
you should be familiar with al-
ternate materials, in case, your
original order can't be filled. ,
MACHINERY •
Long delays in getting a new
machine and parts seem inevit-
able; so start repairing:your hay-
ing machinery now, followed by
your grain harvesting equiPinent.
MONEY
A lot of farmers spent 'a lot of
money last fall to avoid income
tax. I would suggest that it would
be cheaper to let averaging re-
duce, the overall' tax paid rather
than using extra 'expenses. There ,
are many farmers who 'cOuld
change their fiscal year to some
time other than January 1st to
a great advantage. This would
help stablilize, the market around
Christmas. If you wish to -change
the fiscal date of your business
write to: Department . of National
Revenue:
Taxation Division,
166 Frederick Street,'
Kitchener, Ontario
