Lucknow Unit 1
The March meeting of Unit 1,
ILucknow United Church Women,
was held in the church parlour on
March 5 with Mrs. Jas. Wraith
as, leader. Mrs. Wraith opened
the meeting with a poem "March".
A hymn "Jesus Shall reign where
ere the sun" was sung, followed
by prayer.
The roll call was answered by
14 members with an article for a
/ayette. Mrs. Peter Cook gave
the .treaser's report. Mrs. Wal-
ter Dexter gave a poem on comm-
unity friendship and a report on
visiting. •Each member present
signed a card to send to Miss
Catherine MacGregor on her
101st birthday.
Mrs. Nelson Raynard gave the
report on supply and welfare and
read a letter from a Dr. in a
Mission hospital in Africa , telling
Of conditions there. Mrs. Al
kwin gave a reading on steiNard-
ship and recruiting. •
Mrs. W. G. Hunter gave the
report on flowers. Unit 1 will be
responsible for the, flowers in the
church in September. ' She asked
that any church member who
knoWs of anyone'who has a
bereavement in the family let
Mrs. Lois Walden:know.
There was a discussion on how
to raise money. It was moved
that we "have special project en-
velopes for each member , to be
handed in in September. Mrs..
Peter Cook gave two readings,
"Life" and "Spring Cleaning".
Mrs. Wraith started the devo-
tional by singing the hymn "In
Christ there is no east or west".
Mrs. Eva McCullough read the
scripture from Isaiah, chapter 55,
followed by the meditation and a
reading, The Good Life.
The study on mission impossible
was taken by Mrs. Jas. Wraith
"Listening to the third
world. A Japanese Christian
Missionary looks at the North
American Church and mission
independence and interdependence
and a paper on mission hospital
work.
Mrs. Walter Dexter gave a
reading The Great
Commandments. Mrs. McCul-
lough closed the meeting with
prayer and lunch was served by
Mrs. Wraith and Mrs. McCullough.

Whitechurch Messengers held
their meeting on Sunday after
church:in the Sunday School room.
The leaders Mrs. Ivan Laidlaw
dnd Mrs. George Thompson held
a World Day of Prayer Service
with the Messengers. The theme
was. Building Peace with Love.
• Mrs. Laidlaw lit a large candle
from which the members, Murray
Gibb, 'George Jamieson, Tena
Slosser , Janet Laidlaw , Jackie
Whytock, Cindy Moore, Robert
and Dale Jamieson and Richard
Moore, lit candles-and as they
did told and acted what they were
for.
Mrs. Garnet Farrier accompan-
ied on the piano for the singing of
Jesus loves me, Jesus bids us shine
and others.

Mrs.• Wm. Helm was hostess for
the March meeting of Unit 3 of •
the Lucknow United Church Wom-
en. Unit Leader Mrs. Glen Wal-
den welcomed everyone and open-
ed the meeting with a recording -
Jesus is the, Man and a poem If
Jesus came to your honse.
Three verses of Hymn 240 were
sung followed by the, Lord's Prayer.
Twenty-one ladies 'answered the
roll call, many reading articles
from the Observer. Reports were
given by Mrs. J. Ritchie and Mrs.
Chas. McDonald. Mrs. Walden •
gave the offertory prayer.
Mrs. 'Earl Wightman took charge
of the programme and opened with
a poem. Hymn 388 was sung. .
Mrs. Chas. Hallam gave the scrip-
tures and, meditation followed by
a prayer by Mrs. Wightman, Eun-
ice Dunsmuir sang the solo, I
asked the Lord.
Mrs. Walden took the study,
Mission Impossible - Unless. The
ladies formed three groups and
studied cards. Md. Walden led
in the discussion of the cards,
This was followed by a recording.
He has the whole'world in His
Hands. Mrs. Olive Smith read a
poem, Take Time. •
The meeting closed with one '
verse of Hymn 259 and prayer by,
Mrs.•Wightman. Lunch was serv-
ed by the committee in charge.
Hold Euchre Party
The members of the St. Augus-
tine Youth Club held a successful
euchre party. last Friday evening
when draws were made for prizes
on which tickets had been sold:
Winners were: first prize, an
8 track car tape player, Robert
Chamney , Auburn; 'second prize,
an electronic camera , Bernard
Boyle, R. R. 2 Auburn; third
prize, a hair dryer and styler,
Mrs. Donald Cartwright, Auburn;
and fourth prize , a ten pound box
of chocolates, Mike Moriarty,
R. R. 2 Goderich. Door prize waste
won by Janice Foran.
Prizes for, euchre were high

The March meeting of the Pres .-
byterian Church Women's Mission
ary Society was held March 6th in
the. Sunday School room with the
3rd vice president Mrs. Omar
6rdoks in the chair.,
The meeting opened with a
short poern and•prayer by Mrs.
Brooks. Roll call was responded
to by 19 members and 2 visitors,
with a verse from Collosians
followed by Hymn 465.
The Bible study was taken by
MrS. Philip Stewart and Hymn
399 was sung.
Mrs. Wm. Porteous gave an
interesting. article on the new
Study book 'For times like these'
after which she and four other
ladies held an informative
discussion on the topic and Mrs.
Porteous advised all toread the
entire book.
Prayers were offered by Mrs.
Earl MacDonald and Miss
Sadie Johnston. Mrs. James Smith
read an interesting article from
the Presbyterian Record. The .
Synodical will be held in Chesley
on April 2nd and 3rd. Delegate
is Mrs: James Little. The Pres- .
byterial will be held in Ripley
May 13th. The next local meet-
ing will be one week earlier than
usual on account of the other
Meetings early in the month. .
The'offering was taken by Mrs. A
AdamS and dedicated by Mrs.
Noble Johnston. •
The closing hymn was .the
Lord's My Shepherd, after which
we all stood and repeated the Miz-
pah benedication in unision.

Tire St. Augustine Catholic
Women's League held their March
meeting in the church vestry after
Mass Celebrated by Fr. Ed Dentin-
ger on Tuesday, March 5.
Fr. Dentinger opened the meet-
ing with the league prayer.
The card parties were discussed
and it was decided to hold a final
St. Patrick's card pariy. The
conveners for this card party are
Mrs. Raymond Boyle, Mrs. Joe
Hickey, Mrs. Neil Stapleton and
Mrs. Bill Kinahan. The ladieg
are hoping for a big turnout to fin-
ish, up their card party season.
Our Supper on April .5 at 7 p.m.
was discussed and tickets were
passed out to be sold as , soon as
possible at ,$1.5 0 each. There
will be ho tickets' sold at the door.
A donation was sent to the '
Alliance for Life Fund.
It was decided to hold an execu-
tive meeting on March. 24 at 2.30
to fill in the annual reports and
to finalize preparations for our
supper-
After a few words of encourage-
ment from Fr. Dentinger the
meeting was closed with prayer.
