Assuming that Mr. Lalonde' is
speaking for the government it is
hard to understand why the World
Football League is the target of
hey new found ethics. For years
there has been no attempt to
stop bminm interests in the Unit-
ed States from taking, over /
Canada's national game,
There was no attempt at slopping
the ‘V '^ Hockey Leagoe from
e$tablishing in Carve& std surely

It would seem to us that any
action to prevent the World
Football League from expanding
in Canada should be directed to
those involved, not to a
service 'club in Canadian football
partisan Regina.
Mr. Laldnde's remarks smell
highly Of election 'politics, 'having
been made in. Western Canada
whichAs opposed 'to any tampering
of any kind•with the status of the
Canadian Football League and.
where . Lalonde's party needs
votes in the worst' way to field its
own team from the west.
It appears that the federal gov-
ernment has taken another inter-
est under its wing, that of the "
expansion of professional football'
in Canada'.
In a' speech in-Western Canada
last week,, health minister Marc
Lalonde made' it known that his
department will do everything
possible to keep the United' States
based World Football League out
of Canada.
