Ripley Club, which numbers 'over
. the ,huridred mark. is the second'
largest club 'in the county, next
only, to' Teeswater. •
During a recent weekend, a
number of Ripley members
travelled to Toronto to participate
,
in the Junior Farmer Talent Fest-
ival. Nancy McGuire and Janice
Reevei were given top rating in
the 'non-competative class with
their mock'pretentation of "Goldi•
locks and The Three Bears" which
they presented at the Ripley Dist-
rict High School variety concert
last April: Others travelling to the
Royal York were Kerry Boyle, •
Connie and Barry Pollock, Mary
Needham, Carol MacKay, Murray
Collins, Janice Brown, Gord Fair,
Harry Hollands; Cathy Pyrn, •
Kathy and Garry Farrell, Ferne
and- Bruce Aitken. Some of these
members belong to the County
Choir which is directed by. Mrs.
' Kay Smith of Teeswater.
The program convener, Mrs.
Garfield McDonald opened the
program with a reading on
"Valentine Hearts" and then had
all the ladies join in a sing song.
Mrs. Leddy gave two readings
"Pioneer Days" and the "Skirts
Go Up"
Mrs. Harry Nixon gave a splen-
did paper on the motto "Whatis
A' Home" . This was followed by
a medley of old songs played 'by
Mrs. Wes Ritchie.
Mrs. Gilbert Frayne spoke on
"teaching in her first school" and
it was interesting to. hear of the
conditions up in the Muslcoka
district at that time: •

• On Tuesday, February 12th the
Brownies started their meeting with
a game , "One, Iwo, Three".
Everyone then worked ,at 'a Valen-
tine craft.
During Brownie Ring the Sixers
collected the Brownie Gold follow-
ed -by inspection. Snowy Owl pre-
sented Anne Hamilton with her
Collector Badge. Judy Hunter and
Shirley Loree received their Sixer
Stripes from Tawny Owl:
Anne Hamilton, Judy Hunter and
Shirley Loree went to Brown Owl's
home for compass and first aid
while the rest of the Pack had
Pow Wow. The Brownies were told,
about the Thinking Day Church '
Service to be held'o,n February
17th at the Anglican Churth. The
Guides and- Brownies are joining
to-gether for a skating party on
Tuesday, February 26th at 4
o'clock in the 'arena.
At work period the Brownies fin-
ished their craft to take' home,
Janice McInnes passed her test for
running an errand and cleaning
a pair of shoes. Rosemary Gilmore
had a note for helping in the Kit-
chen and for ,keeping her room
tidy. Anne Hamilton and Judy
Hunter passed their rest for corn-
pass.
Everyone then enjoyed a treat
of valentine cookies made by
Snowy Owl and left for home by
the Brownie Arch.

The St. Helens United Church
Women met at the home of Mrs..
W.I. Miller on Tuesday, Febru-
ary 11. Mrs. Tom Todd was in
charge of the meeting and Mrs.
Allan Miller presided at the piano
The hymn, "How Sweet the name
of Jesus. Sounds". was followed by
prayer by Mrs ,• Todd.
Psalm XV was read by. Mrs. Ross.
Errington and Mrs. 'Todd read the
meditatiOn "The Art of Living" .
Mrs. Sheldon Martin read a
poem entitled , "A Laugh"'. The
roll call was to bring used stamps
and Christmas cards and was well
answered by the thirteen ladies '
present. The hymn, "God is our
refuge and out. strength" , was,
sung. Miss Isabel Miller and Mrs.
James Hummel prepared the topic
dealing with missions, but be-
cause of Mrs. Hummers absence,
due to illness, Miss Miller present
ed it. There was an interesting
tape , "The Church built by Moon
light" , followed by discussion.
Mrs. B. F. Green presented some
facts regarding a,.few 'projects in
the missions and services booklet ,
hut no decision was made.
Two verses of "Take Time To
Be HOly" were sung. The minut-
es of the last meeting were read
by Mrs. Don Cameron and Miss
Isobel Miller gave the treasurer's
report.
A discussion regarding "The
World Day of Prayer" was follow-
ed by the other business at hand.
The collection was taken and the
last two verses of "Take Time To
Be Holy" were sung.
Mrs. TornTodd closed the meet.
ing with prayer. 'Grace was sung
and a lovely "Valentine" lunch
served by Mrs. Sheldon Martin
and Mrs. Laura McNeil.
The courtesy remarks were made
by Mrs. John Cameron.

Died At Age 68

Word hasbeen received of the
sudden death of Philip Joseph
Gour of Deer River , Minn, He
passed away following a heart
attack..
Mr. Gour , who was 68 years of
age, was born in Cornwall. He
married the former Lois Mac Ken.
z-ie of Kintail. The couple lived
in Toronto, Utah Pittsburg,
Batavia , New York and Deer
River . •
Surviving besides his wife is
one daughter Mrs. Joseph Hen-
quind of Des Plains Illinois, one
sister , in Cobourg and one brothe r
Maurice .

The Luelcnow Women's Institute
held their February meeting on
Tuesday afternoon. The comm- •
ittee in charge had a nice
dessert and a Cup of tea for the
ladies after which the President,
Mrs. A.J. Wilson opened the
meeting with the oRe111Znod eand
the Mary Stewart Collect.
The correspondence was read
Wand arrangements were made to
have a dessert bridge party. A
letter was read from 'the President
of the Federated Women's Instit-
ute of Ontario and delegates were
elected to' attend the Conference
in'May.
Mrs. McDonald thanked all, who
had helped with, the program and
closed the meeting by singing the
"Queen"
