SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY'
On January 29th neighbours of
Mrs. James Nesbitt held a surprise
birthday party for her at her
home. Guests were Mrs. Bob

ton -and Dianne , Mrs. Mel Henry,
Mrs. Norval- Nesbitt and Mrs.
Kelvin Henderson. In the evening
all husbands joined them for a
social evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gottschalk
and Laurie and Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Pace, Shiaa and Billy of Kincar-
dine were dinner guests Tuesday
evening to celebrate three birth-
days. Bill Pate (Sr) on February
6, Mrs. Bill Pate• (Jr) on February
8 and Fred Gottschalk's on Feb-
ruary 22nd.
Mr. and Mrs. George Messenger
and family have returned home .
from a trip to Florida.

On February 4th, the LticknOw
No '2 4-H Club held their, first
meeting for the club "Taking A
Look At Yourself". Eleven
members repeated the 4-H
pledge.. Mrs. James Boyle went
over requirements, of the club for
the benefit of the new members.
The election of officers followed
with the following girls voted to
office; President, Donna Moffat;
Vice President', Elaine Whitby;
Secretary , Susan Kreutzweiser;
Treasurer,, Lorna Boyle; Press
Reporter, Coralyn Henderson.
The covers., the design and 'the
club name will be voted on later.
A 'discussion was held on the
qualities-that make a person
attractive with all girls partitig-
sting.
Images of well known personal-
ities were, discussed and why the
person is so. popular.
Each girl did a self evaluation
and another girl compared opin-
ions.

A long time resident of North.
Bay P. H. (Harry) Torrance died
Friday at the age of 86. Mi. • Tor-
rance had been residing at Cassell-
home and suffered 'a lengthy ill-
ness. • 9
Born at Lucknow , Febivary 26,
1887, MI: Torrance was the son of
the late Peter Henry Torrance Sr.
and Elizabeth Miller, He went
to North Bay in, 1916 and was a
ye
mmertial .traveller for many
ars. A member of the Associat-
ed Canadian Travellers .Mr . Tor-
rance was also a tourist operator
and at one time was manager of
the North American Life Insurance,
Company in -North Bay.; He was a
member of St. Andrew's United
Church and the Independent Order
of Oddfellows.
His work with the Masonic order
included being a member of the
Nippissing Lodge No. 420, AF and
AM, the• St. John Chapter Royal
Arch Masons , Harrington Piecep-
tory , Rameses Temple of TOronto
and was president of the Rorab
Shrine Club in North. Bay.' • -
He was married in Toronto Sept•
ember 18'., 1917 , to the former
Eunice Macintosh of Lucknow. .
