Two of Jim's sons were unable to
come due to playing on
Windsor hockey teams - Donald
in a tournament at Noranda , Que-
bec and. David in Windsor. Donnie
also had to shorten his visit here
to return to TorOnto for a doubles
curling tournament.' The follow-

That Have Been Told". He has
granted the publishing rights io. •

have had the book published and
it is now offered for sale. For

section, of this, paper. It is quite,
easy to read this book as it is a
series of stories - each.one corm-
pleie in itself. It has, a colour-
ful soft cover and Contains 234
pages.'•'Incidentally , James Mac-
Tavish now of LuCknow and form-
erly of the second concession of
Huron is a brother of the author
as was the late Alex Nilacavish.
Another brother is Rev. Fred Mc-
TaVish. Their parents were the
late Mr. and Mrs. Peter McTav-
ish and their home"farm is now
known for its'large pit-of high "
quality road gravel. It is'
located across from the farm of
Walter and Gordon Roulston. The
buildings, now gone were high
on the north hill overlooking the
Eighteen Mile River as its waters
flow westward throUgh Smoky
Hollow and onto to Lake Huron in
north Ashfield. In his stales Dun-
can mentions happenings in
Olivet , Luc know , liolyrood and
Ripley'as well as many other
places in Southern Ontario where
he has beerra minister.
On Friday afternoon, Decem-
ber 28; 1973 the funeral;service
was conducted for the late Mrs.
Mabel A.' Gray in' London. Mrs.
Gray was the last surviving mem-
ber of the family, of james Alex
Henry and Margaret Bradley who
lived on the present farm of Mr.
and Mrs. J. S. Robb on the second
concession west in Huron Town-
ship. In this family were 5 sons
and 3 daughters —Les, Joe; Alf,
George and John• - the first three
lived in Western Canada, John on
.the farm now owned by Wm. Fer-
guson and located just east of 'the
second concession school and
George along With his father Alex
retired to Ripley. The three
daughters were Annie (Mrs. Jadk •
Palmer), Carrie (Mrs. Charles'
Wardell) and Mabel (Mrs. Bert
Gray).
Attending the funeral from this
area were Mr. and Mrs. Les
Wardell of concession 4, Huron,
Mr. and Mrs. /y1, elville Henry of
concession 2, Huron and Mr. and
Mrs. Stuart Bradley of Kincardine.
It was held at the James Carroth-
ers and Son Funeral Home on Dun
das Street in London with Rev .
Farquhar MacKinnon officiating.
Interment was'in Woodland Cetus
etery. She was 87 years of
age and had lived, in London for
more than 50 years..
She is survived by her four
Aaughters, namely , Evelyn (NIrs.
D. C. MacDonald) of London
,
Mabel( Mrs. A. W. 'Skeates) of
Woodstock , Helen (Mrs. Orme H.
Hunt) of Mississauga, Jean ,(Mrs.
Notman Shannon) of Ottawa , and
also six grandchildren: Mrs. Gray
was the aunt of Leslie Wardell
and Melville-Henry of Huron
Township, Mrs. Irene Bradley of
Kincardine and Mrs. Agnes Lyons
of St. Helens.
Mrs. Mabel Gray passed away
or; Wednesday , December 2E; , at
Park,,,00d -Hospital in London,
wheze had 'been a patient
for the past eight years.. She was
predeceased in 1964 by her hus-
band , Bert Gray, who lived at one
time in the Amberley area.
A number of,people in the area
got their, family Christmas tree at
the re-forested farm on the' eighth
concession, one block west of
kip/ey. This farm Was one of the
pioneer McLay farms on,the
eighth. Wallace Burnett of 'Wind-
sor bought it some 20 years ago
and planted,it with evergreens -
mostly Scots pine . The present own
ers Mr. and Mrs. Mac MacKenzie,
owners and operators Of the, Bruce
Inn in Kincardine made it possible
for people tO select .and cut their
own tree providing they made a •
cash donation to the Ripley Boy
Scouts. On Monday , December
24 Rev. George Ball and his son
Norman drove here' from Milverton
to cut theif ,tree but -first, they.
made a generous donation to the
Scouts. Both Norman and David
are going to' the University of
Toronto. Gordon is in Montreal
and Lorraine is in Toronto, Gordr
on, Lorraine and David allattend-
ed Ripley District High School
while' Norman went to Wingham.
At this time , the first week •
end in January 1974, a number of
folks from the Ripley-Huron area
are. hospitalized.. During the
last part of•the past week both Mr.
and Mrs. Bert Breckelridge enter-
ed Kincardine and District Hospit-
al as did Miss Theresa Weber
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Murray
Weber, Mrs. Breckenridge was the
then taken to LOndon for further
treatment. Also in Kincardine ar
Mrs. Muriel MacAuley Mrs.
Neva McLean and Mrs. Jack Blue
of Ripley and Mel Pollock of the
Clarke's area, in Huron. In St.
Joseph's •Hospital in London are
Mrs. Martha Patterson and Mrs.
Ethel Munn being treated for frac -
tured hips.. Also there are' Mrs.
Albert Osborne and Jeff Rouse ,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Rouse,
Lloyd Wylds, who underwent sur-
gery there a few weeks ago, has
beenable to return home to Rip-
ley. Being treated at Goderich
are Shirley Mackay, Mrs. Lsabel
Brooks and Mrs. Hilda Rustin.
People from this area send their
wishes for recovery to each pat-
ient.
