was for bricking the village pump
house, located just south of the
new nursing home , to conform
with the appearance of the new'
Pinecrest building. Earlier in-.
formal discussions with George
Newbold , owner of Pinecrest
Manor, had been held with coun-
cil in this regard. No action Was
taken on the proposal. 0
Mrs. F. Skelding, president of
the Lurgan Beach Association in,
Huron Township, .has written let-
ters to 'Rene Brunnelle, Minister
of Cominunity and Social Services.
and John White Minister of Treas-
ury Economics and Intetgovern-
' mental Affairs to protest the
planned construction of a recrea-=
tion complex in the village of.
Ripley.
The association opposes the
$450,-000 complex because the
majcir.portion of the cost would
be borne by ratepayers who have
no need for such a facility. The
letters state that of the '$28 mil-
lion total assessment in the town-
ship, the beach strip provides
$18 million.
As far as the association is con-
cerned, there are enotigh .facilit-
ies in the area to provide the ser-
vices proposed in the complex.
The letters state that there are
prespntly three auditoriums in the
village of Ripley, two of which
are in schools. There are also
swimming areas within a 15 mile
radius of the village, ,examples
being Lucknow and Lake Huron.
The association feels that the
residents wouldn't support a corn-
plex of this kind without an oper-
ationalsubsidy from the township
and subsequently the major. rate-
payers of the area.

A recent breakdown of the pump
motor at, the' Lucknow village
main well, south of the public
school, and the related problems
in making repairs, decided coun-
cil to purchase a stand-by motor
to use in such an emergency
again. Council felt that for ade-

It is necessary to replace the

Problem is the fact that the Owen

principal George Lyons, have
gone bankrupt since the pool was
installed.

the four area municipalities
would each contribute $250 for
the initial $1000, did not meet
with favour from the Lucknow
Couneil. The feeling was expres-'
sed at Council meeting, and
Reeve George Joynt stated
that he had secured legal advice
on the matter, that Mr. Lyons
had no• authority to make any
agreement on behalf of the bank-
rupt company and council felt
that any such personal arrange-
ment was not acceptable..
It it the feeling of councillors
who expressed themselves at the
meeting that the pool was not '
completed in the Manner guaran-
teed and that a, proper vinyl liher
and necessary pool repairs to
handle the liner properly , should
be made at no cost to the area
municipalities.
A $4600 final payment on the•
pool and equipment has been
held back by the Lions Club.
