Mrs. Bernadine Kenny; who for
the past several years has resided
in Detroit, Michigan, returned to
Ashfield this past ,week to take up
permanent residence, in what was
her former summer home on the
corner of the 9th of Ashfield and
Highway 21. Mrs. Kenny is a
registered nurse and besides nurs-
ing in Detroit did much valuable
work in her spare time , doing
volunteer social work. She was
assisted in 'moving to her home by
her brothers Al and Len O'Laugh-
lin of Detroit. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Simpson
attended a family gathering for
the Carruthers family- at the home
of Mr, and Mrs. Gerald Murray
of Kinloss on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Allan MacLean
of%Collingwood visited at the
home of his brother Mr. and Mrs.
Ewan MacLean last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Simpson
and. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Finlay-
son attended a barbecue in Sea-
froth last week.

Church. Listowel on Saturday,
August 4th at 8 p.m. The church
was decorated with two candel-
abra and a centre floral arrange-
ment.
Susan McKercher of Milverton
was maid of honour. She wore• a
gown of chiffon with blue specks,
trimmed with ribbon and bows and
white picture hat. Her flowers
were white and yellow daisies,
baby's breath, blue pansies with
blue ribbon.
Bridesmaids were Shirley
Belanger 'of Listowel and Linda
Cranston of Lucknow. - Their
dresses and flowers were identical

gown of blue polyester crepe and
a white• gardenia corsage.
The, groom's mother chose a
sleeveless multi-coloured gown
and pink rose corsage.
The bride's travelling costume,
was a multi-coloured top with
black palazzo pants and a white
orchid.

S. JOHN. KILPATRICK
The death of Samuel John KU*
patrick of Arkona occurred in
Strathroy Hospital on. Friday, Aug-
ust 24th after a lengthy illness.
He was 70.
He was a son of JoSeph Kilpat-
rick and Margaret Sherood and
was born in Ashfie1c1,township on
rune 6th, 1903. • '
On December 30th, 1927 he
married Annie Robinson.
John farmed in Ashfield until
1.936.. He then took over the
Massey Harris Implement BusinesS
in Lucknow and later was appoint-
ed District Manager for Massey
Harris.
In 1958 he 'moved to, Arkona
as Sales Manager for Hawkins
Farm Equipment , retiring in 1967
because°of ill health. , ,(•
Besides his wife, Mr. Kilpatrick
is survived by one son Keith of.
Lucknow , three daughters Mrs.
John (Noreen) Gnay of Belgrave
Mrs., Basil (Gladys) Halhed of '
k Ottawa Mrs. WM. (Marilyn)
Meaden of London and eight grand.
children; also two sisters Mrs.
Herman (Violet) Voaden of Toron-

He was predeceased by his par-
ents in 1904.
The funeral service was held at
the Gilpen Funeral Home, Thed -
ford on Monday, August 27th.
Rev. Bonham Of London and Rev.
Waltho of Arkona were ministers.
Interment was in Greenhill Ceram
etery, Lucknow. -
Flower bearers were four' of
his grandchildren, Karen and Kev-

Mr. Kilpatrick was a member
of Arkona United Church and a
member of Old Light Lodge 184,
Lucknow. A Lodge service was .
held on August\26th at the funeral
home.
The Lucknow Women's Institute
held their September meeting on
September. 7th with the president
Mit. Armstrong Wilson in the
chair.
The correspondence Was read
and discussed. The Cheerio re-
port was given by Mrs. Charles
Steward. •The ladies are invited
to 'Mrs. Russel Altons for their
October , meeting. Roll call was
answered by "a hint. for a sick
garden".
The program committee with
Mrs. Sam Gibson as chairman
presented an interesting program
opening with "0 Canada" and
Mrs. Robert Helm gave the cur -
rent events. The songsters sang
"The MoCkin• Bird Hill": Mrs.
Evan Keith of Kinloss Township
was, guest speaker. She gave a
splendid talk on the growing of
fruit and told of the origin of the
Mackintosh apple. Everyone en-
joyed her talk but were sorry to' •
hear that their apple crop was a
failure this year on account of
the frost and wet spring. Mrs.
Clarence Bell thanked Mrs. • Keith
and presented her with a small
gift.
Mrs. Wm. Helm read the motto
"Life-is a, garden, what are you
planting". The ladies sang "The
blue bird on your window
and the meeting closed with the
singing of the Queen and the In-
stitute grace with the committee
serving lunch.
