Tie 'death of Elva Gertrude
Johnston occurred suddenly in ,
Toronto'on Monday, July 16, after
an illness of two and a half
• month's duration. She was 71. •
e0as ihe daughter of the
- lite Oliver Johnston and Laura
GrOmmett and was born in Luck-
now ,.Angnst 19., 1901.
lva graduated in nursing
from the Wingham -General Hos-
pitai and . for a period of about
twenty years she did private, nurs-
ing duty in Lucknow andyicinity.
After moving to Toronto"' •
e did indnstrial nursing chiefly
until her retirement in March •
1969.
She ik•survived by a sister,
.Mrs. E. Sage'. of Detroit and by a
brother Gordon of Scarborough. '
Predeceasing her were four
sisters, Mrs. Osgood '(Mae) of
Detr,pir„ Mis..Senior (Betty),of
Chicago, Mrs. Gannett' (Mine),
of Toronto and Clara of Lucknow
also by two brothers, James and .
Sidon of Toronto.
The.funeral service was held
_at 'the MacKenzie Memorial
Chapel; Lucknow, , on Thursday,.
July 19th at 2 p.m. Rev. Robert
Nicholls., minister of Lucknow,

On July 22nd a siirpriie gather-
ing was held at the home of Mr,
and Mrs. Jim Boak (nee. Phyllis
Cook). of Crewe, in honour of
their.25th wedding anniversary. •
Jim soak, elder son of the
Couple, spoke a few words of
congratulations to his parents.
M. and. Mrs. Boak replied very
fittingly and received many
lovely gifts. ,
It is of interest to note Mrs.
James Walsh, '(nee. Elsie Cook)
was one of her attendants and she
wore her gown of 25 years ago.
'Another bridesmaid, Mrs. Everett
Whitehead (nee Pearl Jamieson);
of Teeswater was the other attend-
ant who was present.
A picnic dinner was enjoyed by
all.
Guests were present from Thorn-
hill, Hamilton, Exeter, Goder-
ich, -Auburn, Myth, Teeiwater,
"Glanworth, and Belgrave.
