The clinic was held in the United Church basement, where a nine - bed hospital was set up. .Five rather vicious -looking young birds were creatingconsid- erable interest in town. They were brought in from the Lakeshore and although not able to fly were quite some size and had a wing spread of about two feet. They were identified as a species of hawks. :50 YEARS AGO • JULY 1923' The Provincial Department of Agriculture had fitted up.a truck with a demonstration water -supply system,' suitablefor installation in farm houses, and was, exhibiting the plant at a number of centres in each county;. The plant • would supply running water - hot and cold if desired - throughout a house or to the kitchen or bath- room, as desired. Such a system it was believed, would greatly ;relieve the drudgery about the farm home. The system could' be equallyadapted to houses in the villages where there was no domestic water supply under pres- sure. The program operates during July and August. Students navel in groups of 20 with. teach- er escorts, by air , train and bus. They spendapproximately one week, exclusive of travel time, in a "host. community" of the province or territory they visit , and are, billeted in private homes. Students' are selected for partici- pation in the Program by'school principals and staff with the assist- ance of provincial guidelines. Students chosen should be in grade 11 or year 3 of the/Senior Division, in good health, from 15-17 years of age, and should-- have demonstrated, through school and community life, that they will. be worthyrepresenta tives of their school and province. Students who have had limited or no opportunity for interprovin- cial travel, or for participation in other government programs, will be given preference.
