POOL OPENING s
Following the presentation to
Paul, and the speeches, .the scene
changed to the opening of the ..
swimming pool where Barry ,
introduced Bill Hunter.
Bill Hunter., chairman of the
Lucknow: Recreation Committee ,
who spearheaded the pool idea
throughout the planning and
completing stages, said that
this was a dear moment for him
personally, • the completion'
of the Lucknow and District pool
where between 400 and 500 child•
ren have registered to 'take
swimming lessons,
There are a few finishing
touches to do in completion of
the change rooms, but the, pool
will be in operation next week.
He mentioned ' the contractors
who had played . a part in the build
ing of the change rooms,, Lloyd
Johnston, Claude Guay, George
Whitby, Donald. MacKinnon,
Glen Porter, Bob Symes and C -and
M Transport and the company who
had .installed the pool, Owen
Sound Mechanical Engineers.
Bob, Finlay, chairman of. the
Lucknow Lions Club funzl raising
Lsommittee for the swimming pool,
was called on and Bob paid tribute
o a number of people . and
organizations who had worked to-
wards the raising of the funds to
finance the pool, also the canvass •,
ersboth. inside and outside of the
Lions Club. He said that much'
credit was due Bill Hunter who
worked tirelessly and convinced
the Lions Club that the
job could be done.
He pointed out the fact that the
barometer, indicating the donat-
ions to the pool project, stood at
$27,500' and that the project still
had a long way to go to reach the
top financially. He felt that, there
would still be many in the area •
who would like to be part of the
pool project .
Called on to speak were area
Recreation Committee officials,
John Austin of Ashfield, Barry
Johnston of Kinloss, Walter Arn-
old of West Wawanosh.
The pool staff was introduced,
Andy Anderson, manager and
head . instructor, Brenda Bushell,
his assistant; Brenda Rotteau, Gail
MacPherson, Jim Henderson, .
Bernadette Kieffer and Donna
Moffat. ..-
Others speaking, at the pool
opening. were Murray Gaunt,
M.P.P. , Huron Bruce and George
Joynt, Lucknow Reeve.
The ribbon to officially open
the pool was cut by Bill Hunter
and the pool was open to inspect-
ion .by those in attendance.
The large new pool 40 by 82,
and change house, freshly. sodded
grounds and modern facilities,,
are a fine addition to Caledonian
Park and the. general impression
of the area as viewed from High-
way 86 is one of progress and
accomplishment for the village.
A beef barbecue in the arena
attracted .about•450 people and a
dance in the arena later that
evening also attracteda large
