Lucknow Unit 3
Unit 3 of Lucknow United
Church Women met at the home
of Mrs. Ken Murdie on June 5 ,
with fourteen members present.
Mrs. Gordon Kirkland read a
poem, "Sharing". Hymn 15 was
sung and the Lord's prayer repeat-
ed in unison.
'The treasurer's report was giv-
en by Mrs. Lawrence McLeod .and
Mrs. Glen Walden made arrange-
ments for flowers to be placed in
the church during September.
Mrs. McLeod presided for the
program and read a poem',"Count
your blessings". Hymn 589,
"This is my father's world" was
sung, and Mrs. McLeod told of
the setting for this hymn, written
by Rev. Babcock.
The theme of devotions was
"The Work of Our Hands". Mrs.
N. J. MacKenzie read Psalm 90/,
and Mrs. E. Wightman gave the
meditation and prayer.
A reading. "Lilacs" was given
by Mrs. Wm. Helm. Mrs. Mc-
Leod gave a synopsis of the 'chap-
ter on "New Horizons for India's
Women' . taken from thestudy
book "A'sk an .Indian about India".
Child marriage is common place
amongst all classes and intercast -
'marriage is becoming more preva-
lent. A household may consist
of three generations and the wom-
en act as servants for husband
and family.
Mrs. Walden gave a reading,
"Its Later Than You Think" and
the meeting closed with the miz-
pah benediction.
Each member had been asked
to bring her baby picture, and an
interesting time was spent match-
ing babies and/ adults. Following
this, a hobby salewas held, with
Mrs.. Kirkland and Mrs. Walden
as auctioneers. The treasury'was`'
increased by $15.25.

Church Women met at the .home
of Mrs./ Alex Andrew on Monday,
June 4th at 8 p.m. The president

meeting with a poem "As We Sow's

by Mrs. Cliff Crawford. .The off-
ering was dedicated by Mrs. Ack-
ert.
In the business report, Mrs.
Ackert reported on the Bridal
Tea at Wingham on May 30th. A
very fine attendance from Luck-
now was reported. The ladies
were reminded of the packing of
the bale on Wednesday, June 6
at 1 p.m.
The committee in. charge of the
-programme, convened 'by Mrs.
Wm. Humphrey took over the de-
votions. Hymn 148 was sung.
Mrs. Evans Helm read a reading
entitled "Understanding". The
scripture, Psalm 145 was taken by
Mrs. George Jardine. Mrs. •
Humphrey gave a reading "Spring
Housecleaning'.
The guest speaker Mrs. Oliver
McCharles of Ripley was introduc-
ed by Mrs Humphrey. Mrs.
McCharles gave a very interesting
Bible Study. The speaker was
thanked and presented with a gift
by Mrs, Humphrey.
A reading "God is Standing
There With. You" was read by
Mrs. John Pritchard. Hymn 126
was sting followed by prayer by
Mrs. 'Humphrey. Mrs.•. Ackert
gave the benediction.

Mrs. Russ Button was auctioneer
for a Bake Sale for which the
members had donated. During
this "time also, Mrs. McCharles
had on display many beaded
necklaces which she had made.
A very enjoyable social hour fol-
lowed. accompanied by lunch.

On May 28 a special` meeting
was he,ld,at Calvin -Brick church.
Guests were present from White-
church , St. I -le Yen's , Blyth, '
Donnybrook; and Westfield and a
large crowd filled the church.
Mrs. Sidney Thompson played
piano selections. Mrs. Norman
Coultes and Mrs. Harry Cook re-
ceived the guests at the door..
Mrs. Richard Moore extended
.a warm welcome to the guests.
Mrs. Donald Dow sang a
solo, "I walk to day where Jesus
walked". This wasthe theme
of the worship period. All sang,
Wise men seeking, Jesus travelled
from afar. This hymn was ex-
plained by Mrs. Beecroft follow-
ed by scripture passages read by
Mrs. Richard Moore and. Mrs.
George McGee and explained by
her. Mrs. Donald. Dow led the
singing of Cum Biah. The..offerin°
was received by Mrs. Robert Gor-
don and Mrs. Bryan Coultes and
was dedicated by Mrs. Gilbert
Beecroft.•
The hymn, fill Thou my life was
repeated as a prayer in unison.
Mrs. Sidney Thompson, and Mrs.

panied by pianist Mrs. George
McGee.
Mrs. Kenneth Mason introduced
the guest speaker Rev. B. Pass-
more of United Church, Wingham
who showed slides with recorded
sounds of his 18 day trip to the
East. He concentrated on the.
buildings . and places of Biblical
significance. There were 45
United Church ministers on the
trip. A question peri o d followed.

Mrs. Richard Moore closed the
meeting with prayer. Mrs.. Alex
Robertson had charge of the,seat-
ing for lunch so that all were with
other groups'. Mrs. Richard Moore
gave the Grace. ' A delicious
lunch was served by the lunch
committee: All enjoyed the soc
ial time.
Lucknow, Unit 1 -
Mrs. E.' W.. Rice was hostess
for the regular meeting of Unit 1
of Lucknow United Church Wom-
en. Mrs: Mice, president, presid-
ed and opened the meeting with a
verse and hymn. The. devotions
were ,and

to us". The scripture was taken
by Mrs. Rice. reading fromi John
5. Mrs. Irwin gave the.medita-
tion - Faith can move mountains
and led in prayer. A vocal solo •
by Mrs.' Eunice Dunsmuir was en-
joyed.
Mrs. Al Irwin for the topic ,
read an article "Think on these
things". She told to think 'truly,
and live truly. The best way to
keep evil ideas out of our mind is
to concentrate on things that are
good, pure and beautiful and to
praise, rather than to criticize
and read a poem, "The Bible".
Mrs. Clarence Irwin. read an
article " Why are they shootOg °at
the moon", Hymn 610 was sung
and Mrs. Irwin led in •prayer;.
The roll call was answered by
10 members, with "Your .favour-
ite flower". • Mrs. Vernon lihnter
reported on the meeting -of Oe.

Church Observed
117th Anniversary
SOUTH KINLOSS NETS
The 117th Anniversary of South
Kinloss Presbyterian Church was
observed with special , services on
Sunday, June 10.
The Rev. J. R. MacDonald,
former minister of Ripley and
Ashfield , and now of -Roseville,
Michigan, was guest speaker.
Large crowds were at both'serv-
ices to hear his message, "Have
you heard the Sound of The
Trumpets" and the ''Anonymous
Christian".
Junior and senior choirs sang
Anthems ' and also the double trio
of Mrs. Philip Steer, Mrs. Donald.
MacIntyre , Mrs, A., A. Johnson,
Mrs. Don Beit, Mrs. John Forst-
er and Mrs. Ralph Aalders. Mrs.
Lorne Sparks, organist and, choir
leader , composed much of the
music. Mrs. Glenn Noble '
was pianist.
Many remarked following the
services how inspiring were both
the sermons and the singing. The
spring flowers which decorated.,
the church were again grown and.
arranged by Mrs. Alex MacLeod.
