Glenn Noble of Lucknow and, South Kinloss Presbyterian Clurches'represented Bruce Mait- land Presbytery at the 99th Gener- al Assembly of the Presbyterian 'Church in Canada held last week at Glenview Presbyterian Church in Toronto. , The proceedings started on Sun- day, June 3rd and .ended on Fri. 'day, June. 8th. Bruce - Maitland was represented by three elders and three ministers, the .other two clergymen being Robert Armstrong of Wingham and John Fortier of Tiverton. • The nef4i moderator was elect- ed on Sunday and is . Dr.' Agnew .H. Johnston of Thunder Bay suc'- - seeding Dr. Max Putnam ,of King- ston. -Monday, and Tuesday were study sessions and Wednesday to Friday were set aside for the main _business sessions. Next .year will be .the 100th General Assembly and a commit- tee is presently workingon spec- ial events to mark this occasion. In 1970, the Assembly _discon- tinued the practice of a one year compulsory term on the mission field for a graduatingminister. This year, the compulsory term was voted back in /and increased toa two year term which will become: effective for 1974 gradu- ates. • - . The assembly commended any arrangement for. the common use of buildings between the Presby- terians and Roman Catholics where it would meet an urgent need or where the action would: serve as a unique expression of . common witness to the commun- ity. The minimum salary for min- isters was raised $300 and $1000 for professors and general secret- ?ries of church boards. Malcolm had the Bible Study on the Response of Jesus to suffering people, and His compassion for them, reading scripture from Matthew , chapter eight. Mrs. George Kennedy led in prayer • Mrs. Glenn Noble gave. the "Glad Tidings" review, which was followed by hymn 570, "Lord 'speak to me that I- may speak". Mrs., Johnston, gave the offertory prayer and roll call was answered. by a verse from the book of Rom- ans. • Mission Study was given by Mrs. Jas. Little' on "New Horizons for Indian Women". "Thank you" notes were read and further ar- rangements for the picnic meeting were made. A letter was read. askingthat letters be sent to members of parliament in Ottawa and Toronto, expressing disapprov al of more lenient laws being passed on abortion. Mrs. W. A. Porteous reported for the visiting committee; and a card was signed for a shut-in member. After singing°',"Simply Trusting Every Day"Mrs. Phil- lip Stewart closed the meeting with prayer. St. 'Augustine CWL The June meeting of St. Aug- ustine C. W.L. was held on Wednesday, June 6th in the Church Hall.. The meeting open- ed with prayer and Mrs. Kinahan, our president wasin the chair. We hadtwo ladies from the Lucknow C. W.L. as our guests. Fr. Dentinger; our spiritual dir- ector led the prayer. There were 10 members present.
