Clurches'represented Bruce Mait-
land Presbytery at the 99th Gener-
al Assembly of the Presbyterian
'Church in Canada held last week
at Glenview Presbyterian Church
in Toronto. ,
The proceedings started on Sun-
day, June 3rd and .ended on Fri.
'day, June. 8th. Bruce -
Maitland was represented by
three elders and three ministers,
the .other two clergymen being
Robert Armstrong of Wingham
and John Fortier of Tiverton.
• The nef4i moderator was elect-
ed on Sunday and is . Dr.' Agnew
.H. Johnston of Thunder Bay suc'-
- seeding Dr. Max Putnam ,of King-
ston.
-Monday, and Tuesday were
study sessions and Wednesday to
Friday were set aside for the main
_business sessions.
Next .year will be .the 100th
General Assembly and a commit-
tee is presently workingon spec-
ial events to mark this occasion.
In 1970, the Assembly _discon-
tinued the practice of a one year
compulsory term on the mission
field for a graduatingminister.
This year, the compulsory term
was voted back in /and increased
toa two year term which will
become: effective for 1974 gradu-
ates. • - .
The assembly commended any
arrangement for. the common use
of buildings between the Presby-
terians and Roman Catholics
where it would meet an urgent
need or where the action would:
serve as a unique expression of .
common witness to the commun-
ity.
The minimum salary for min-
isters was raised $300 and $1000
for professors and general secret-
?ries of church boards. Deacon-
esses received a $1200 raise in
lieuof negotiationsfor housing
allowances.

ism and Social Action, Steward-
ship and Budget and Christian
Education will be dissolved the

The June meeting of the After-
noon Auxiliary of the W. M. S.
of the Lucknow Presbyterian
Church was held in the Sunday
school room with an attendance
• of eighteen. Mrs. Noble John-
ston presided and opened the
meeting by reading a, poem,
"Crocuses".
After singing Psalm 86 "All
people that on earth do dwell" ,
Miss N. Malcolm had the Bible
Study on the Response of
Jesus to suffering people, and
His compassion for them, reading
scripture from Matthew , chapter
eight. Mrs. George Kennedy led
in prayer •
Mrs. Glenn Noble gave. the
"Glad Tidings" review, which
was followed by hymn 570, "Lord
'speak to me that I- may speak".
Mrs., Johnston, gave the offertory
prayer and roll call was answered.

Mission Study was given by Mrs.
Jas. Little' on "New Horizons for
Indian Women". "Thank you"

rangements for the picnic meeting
were made. A letter was read.

Mrs. W. A. Porteous reported
for the visiting committee; and a

with prayer.
St. 'Augustine CWL
The June meeting of St. Aug-
ustine C. W.L. was held on
Wednesday, June 6th in the
Church Hall.. The meeting open-
ed with prayer and Mrs. Kinahan,
our president wasin the chair.
We hadtwo ladies from the
Lucknow C. W.L. as our guests.
Fr. Dentinger; our spiritual dir-
ector led the prayer. There
were 10 members present.
Mrs. Mary Boyle read the cor-
respondence and Mrs. Joe Hickey
gave the treasurer's report.

sponsor any walkers from our par-
ish in the Goderich, walkathon
to be held this Saturday, June
16th.
We will be hostesses for 23 ex-
change students who will be com-
ing from British, Columbia and
will be taking a tour of our farm-
ing community. They will'come
back to our church for supper on
Tuesday, June 19th.
The C.W.L. will purchase
stationery with the C. W.I. crest
on it. Mrs. Mary Boyle gave.an
interesting report on the Diocesan
Convention held in Chatham•in•
May. r•
Father Dentinger gave an en-
lightening talk on "Loveone
another".
Lunch was served and •a social
hour followed.

Lucknow United Church Women
was held at the home of Mrs,.

an article from the Observer. Mrs.
Raynard Ackert told of plans for
the showing of a movie on June
16th in the church for 'the child-
ren of the community. Mrs. Don
Cardis gave the visitor's . report.
Four ladies, Mrs. Wraith, .Mrs.
Gordon Ritchie Miss Lorna Camp-
bell and Miss Helen Thompson
offered to visit the shutins during
the summer,.
Mrs. Raynard Ackert was in
charge of the programme. She
began with a prayer and the sing-
ing of a verse to the tune.of-Kum
Bah Yah. The scripture was
taken from Philippians followed
by several ladies reading verses
of scripture.

fering it. causes. Mrs.
MacMurchy gave two ,
readings, "The Touch of the
Master's Hand" and "Ten U.C.
Women"

A drama on "Women of Samar-
ia"was given by Mrs. Harvey
Houston, Mrs. W. R. Hunter and
Mrs. Eldon Ritchie. Mrs Ackert
conducted a bible quiz on
"Matthew". Hymn 500 was sung.
and Mrs. Ackert closed the meet-
ing with prayer. .
Everyone enjoyed a delicious
pot luck supper.
