WIREWORM
Are you wondering why you
have a poor stand of grain or
corn this spring? The answer
may be beneath the soil surface
in the form of a wireworm, lots.
of, them. Normally, ° this pest is
only serious following sod in ro-
tation but because of cool moist
conditions ' this spring it is oc-
curing everywhere... The insect is
easy to recognize. It looks like a
short piece of dark yellow wire
with a brown head.
Wireworrns eat seeds, roots and
shoots. Unfortunately, there is
nothing short of replanting that
can be done now. Wireworms do ..
not cause damage once they are

REPORT FROM
QUEEN'S PARK
BY MURRAY GAUNT
M.P.P. HURON - BRUCE
The Minister of Natural Re-
sources, The Honourable Leo
Bernier, this week announced an •
expansion of park' facilities' in
the Bruce Area ,'which means, in
effect, that Ontario Hydro is tak-
ing over Inverhuron Park as a
green belt area surrounding the
enlarged nuclear Hydro facilities.
Ontario Hydro will join with •
the Ministry of Natural Resources
in acquiring some 1800 acres of
land at MacGregor. Point, near
Port Elgin, approximately .10
miles North of Inverhuron Park.
This new park is expected to be
fullyoperational by 1975 and
meanwhile Inverhuron• will remain
open to the public as an overnight
camping area.' After 1975 the
swimming and picnic areas and ,
open park spade now occupied by.
campers, will remain available to
the public free of charge, although
the land will be owned by. Hydro.
I amdisappointed in this news,
because •Inverhuron:Park is consid•
eyed to be one of the best - if not.
the best - provincial park in Ont-
ario, and the likelihood of it
being duplicated'in the area is ° ,•
very remote. • '
Also this week, Premier Davis
announced the establishment of
a Ministry of Energy for Ontario'
:within a few weeks, and plans •
mature ;(approximately 1" in
length). A seed dressing ,contain-
ing Lindane is the preventative.
Lindane may be 'a worthwhile
"ounce of •prevention next spring.
