The weather was miserable on
.Tuesday, May 8 with overcast
skies and 'frequent rain squalls,
as all .who planted trees at the
Huron dump well remembe.r. But •
at the Norsdale.Stock Farms at• •
Reids Corners, it was a happy
• day. Brothers Norris and George
•Messenger and 'their father Arthur
• Messenger, operators of the
Farms and Stuart Hutchins of Paris
• had consigned a four and a half
month old bull calf to the regist-
ered Holsteiniale held that day
at the Shore. Sales Arena at Glan-
worth, south of London'. Buyers
,were there from Italy, France,
• Spain,,United States, Mexico,
South America and many parts
- •
of Canada.
Forty-sieven lots of registered
-Holsteini were listed in the sale
• catalogue . The average sale
price was $8440 dollars. This
calf from Reids, Corners , born
December 23,, 1972 - just two'
,days before last Christmas,. was
the forty-seventh lot in the sale
but it was the second highest
priced animal when the bidding
was over. The registered name
of this bull calf is Norsdale Mont-
vic Emperor and it sold at
$18,000, almost two and a half
times 'the sale average. .The suc-
cessful bidder was Tony Roman,
acting on behalf of his own firm
Global Holstein Export Ltd.;, and
two others namely Rockwood Int -

team open the baseball season

sale attracted excellent photo-
graphers from United States..
The picture of the Messenger
calf - Norsdale Montvic Emperor,
along with four men, R. Brown,
Jim Millington, Tony Roman,
and Norris Messenger is clear and
bright while the weather was dull
and rainy when it was taken out-
side. The photographer was Bob
Miller from the state of Illinois.
It appeared in last week's Sentin-
el.

the weekend with her friend

attended the variety concert in
Ripley' last .Friday evening.

admitted to Sick Children's Hos-
pital in London on Tuesday to
undergo tests. We hope he will
soon be feeling much better.

now' Concert Band, under band-
master Gordon Cayley, presented
their annual band concert to"a
full auditorium at Lucknow Centra
Public School on Saturday evening
In addition to the band numbers
several or the band members
performed,indiVidually.. They
were: trumpet duet, Suzanne
Corrin and Paul Finlay; trombone
duet, Barbara Cameron and Tom
Henderson; clarinet trio, Joan
Hamilton, Susan and Nancy
Thompson; trumpet solo, Colin
Cameron; clarinet solo, Rob Hend
erson; clarinet solo, Marilyn.
Murray; trombone solo, Dale
Lougheed. Mrs. Tom Prtichard
accompanied on the piano for
these numbers.,
Dale Lougheed.of pelgrave,
band president, introduced the
evening's concertend assisted by
Murray Keith, made the presenta-
tion of shrubbery to .bandmaster
Gordon Cayley from the band
,members.
Linda Campbell assisted Mr.
Cayley in the introduction of the
numbers.
