Fire Chief Doug Liddle has •
stated this past week, that "Red
Ball" stickers are being distributed
throughout Ripley and Huron Town•
ship by the students of Pine River
Central and the Ripley Huron
Central schools. These are to
be attached to the inside of wind-
ows in rooms where small child-
ren, elderly or infirm people are
sleeping so that firemen arriving
at serious house fires will know
where to attempt rescues.

Frequent rains and night frosts
during the past week were not the
best growing weather for the hay.
and grain fields in the area: It
is hoped that this week will bring
some warm weather.

A special service of dedication
of the mew hymn books was held
this Victoria Day Sunday at
North Ashfield Presbyterian
Church with the minister Rev.
'Kenneth J. Rooney. of Ripley in
charge.
Last Thursday afternoon while
cutting the lawn at the back of
her house in Ripley, Mrs. Steve
Irwin made a very strange find.
Reta discovered a hole in the
ground. a few inches deep and
about five inches across. Further
examination showed that at the
\\bottom there was an object
which she removed with the
shovel. In removal it broke into
several pieces about the size of
a thumb and by its appearance
and weight one would say that it
was a bronze metal and had been
in a •.molten state when it landed
about twenty feet from Mrs. Ir -
win's house. To date no explana-
tion can be made as to where it
came from and what it is. It was
not there when Mrs. Irwin cut the
lawn the week. before.
