Church Women was. held at the home of Mrs. W. I. Miller with an attendance'of.19. Mrs. Allan. Miller presided at the. piano. Mrs. Tom Todd opened 'with the call to worship with the • theme "Praise". Hymn 304 was sung and the Lord's Prayer repeat- ed in unison. Mrs. Sheldon Martin read the scripture, Psalm 96 and Mrs. Frank McQuillin read the medita�� tion. Mrs. Simon de Boer sang "All The Way My Saviour Leads Me" followed by prayer by Mrs. B. F. Green. Miss W. D. Rutherford read • "Grannies Family Bible" and Mrs. - Gordon MacPherson read "Friend ship is a Smile". The roll call was a verse with "Mother". Mrs. Tom Todd read about "Salorni - The Ambitious Mother": Mrs., Charles McDonald read an article about a farm waif in India. Isobel Miller had the topic, which included' many facts about India and "Land The Gift of God". ' A hymn' was sung and Mrs.' Todd closed the devotions with prayer. St. Helens U.C.W. has been invited to Calvin -Brick on May 28th.and to`Dungannon on May; 12th: We are planning; a Tupper- ware Party in the St. Helens. Hall. A cleaning bee is .to be held in the Calvin United; Church,.on June 23rd The June meeting was discussed. • Mrs. B. F. Green.spoke briefly and Mrs. Lorne Woods. presented Mrs. W. I. Miller with a cup . and saucer in honour of her 90th birthday which is on May 20th. Mrs. Miller replied and thanked everyone. ' All joined in singing Happy Birthday. Mrs. Chas. McDonald acted as auctioneer for a very lively sale '. of spring plants. Mrs. Gordon MacPherson 'and -Mrs.. Laura McNeil served a dainty lunch and then everyone enjoyed the birthday cake and ice cream prepared by Mrs. Green. 'Mrs: John Cameron made the, courtesy remarks. Chalmers C.O.0 WHITECHURCH NEWS On Sunday, May 20 during church service at Chalmers • Presbyterian Church the C.Q.C. held: their- meeting in the church Sunday School room. Clarence Wybenga gave the call to wor- ship, Gods Gifts. All repeated the C.O.C. hymn. Lori Purdon read the scripture and John Wybenga led in prayer..'. Donald de Boer read the minutes and called the roll. - to be: answer- ed nswered by the name of your favourite spring flower, and was answered by 11. Wray Forster received the offer- ing. David Elliott gave the offer- ing prayer. Mrs. Hugh Simpson leader gave the stories Faith In•Orbit and Shoes. Mrs. Archie Purdon, also leader, gave a story. All sang the closing prayer. Evening Auxiliary The Lucknow Presbyterian Evening Auxiliary held their May meeting in the Church Fellowship Room -on Tueday, May.15 at', 8‘ p.m. with 19 ladies in attend- ance. Mrs. Roy Finlayson was the President in charge and the meeting opened with the Hymn "I love They Kingdom Lord". Mrs. Jim Aitchison gave the. scripture,and meditation. The roll call was answered and,the business and correspondence dis- cussed. The. treasurer gave her report •and the dime cards were collected. Mrs. Finlayson gave.. the offertory prayer. The topic was presented by Miss Sadie Johnston based on the.. Study book on India and.dealing with Health Education. She also presented a'question and answerperiod on India's Indust- rial and Production problems. Mrs. Isabel Mullin gave a reading.. Mrs. Jack MacDonald gave an interesting summary of the Presbyterian Bi Annual Con- ference held in the Ephraim Scott Memorial Church in Montreal" May 4, 5, 6th. Miss Maudie Fisher also attended. The closing hymn was "Come let us sing". The Lord's Prayer • was repeated in unison. .Lunch was served by the committee in .. charge. . Mrs. Gordon Rintoul read the ' scripture and gave the rnedita- tion;.stressing the independence of a grain of wheat. Atone in a bin of wheat it is a small thing. One grain sprouted and grown produces much more. A reading All Comes Straight was given by Mrs. Wesley Tiffin. A letter was received from Camp Kintail asking for help in cleaning June 4. No one being free to go a collection was taken to assist in buying cleaning supp- lies. An invitation was received from Calvin -Brick to attend their Monday evening anniversary celebration, May 28, when Rev. Barry Passmore will show slides and give a commentary on his trip to the Middle East. Ws. Elroy Laidlaw gage the topic Building the Temple in King Solomon's Time. God • promised peace during his reign: David knew of man's plans to ' .build' a temple, which was exceedingly magnificant. Where the temple was built on Mount Moriah, Abraham had offered Isaac his son. Much material was gathered and skilled work- men did the building using cedars from Lebanon.'30,000 Israelites worked in. shifts on the .building. No machinery was used. Stones were set so close not a knife blade would go between, no nails were used and no hammer sounds were heard. We too are building a temple and. should all work together. King David madethe plans but King Soloman did the building. Mrs. Rintoul asked for clippings on India , to be brought to next meeting.
