Catching Cold

The Bible continues to, be the
most widely distributed book in
the world. The Canadian,Bible
Society reports that the 1972 fig-
ures indicate an unprecedented
circulation in Canada and overseas
In Canada alone , the Society dis
tributed 108.,000 Bibles and more
thanraN,000 copies of the New
Testament in addition to More
than two and a half million copies
of smaller scripture portions. In-
eluded in'those figures are

The Bible Society each yi furnishes free scriptures for t
blind. More than 7,000 uni

were given to the blind last
A highlight of the 1972 re
was the announcement that
Canadian Bible. Society fON
$860 0.00 - or more than
$16,5,00 perf,week - for the
translation, Printing, and dl
tion of the Bible overseas,
of this, was used to ftirnish se

The common cold may never
le uncommon. There are at least
80 .different known cold •
viruses, and scientists think there
are many more yet •to be pinpoint-
ed'. Immunity to one virus is no
defense against the other known
79. As a result no one is too
optimistic about,the future of cold
vaccines. .
Many cold viruses are ..spread by
coughing and sneezing. But the
infection is spread other ways
also. For example "rhinovirus"
which causes from 30 to 40
'percent of common colds is
often found on the hands of pat-
ients but not always in their
cough or sneeze,
• After blowing his or her nose,
the infected person may keep
the invisible virus on the hands.
The virus may remain for three
hours on some of,,the surfaces he
touches. Tests haye shown the
virus stays for hours on plastic ,
Formica , and, stainless steel, but
not so long on cotton cloth and
paper handkerchiefs.
If you have a cold, washing
your Hands frequently' after bloW-
ing your •nose may be one way to
prevent spreading the infection
around. Keeping fingers await
from' your eyes and
nose is another.
