Farmers CIrganize To Battle Hydro • By Keith Roulston Farmers in Bruce County and the northeastern part of Huron County have organized to fight for a better deal with regards to a proposed power line to run from Douglas Point Nuclear Generating Station to Seaforth. Adrian Vos of Blyth, a mem- ber of the property committee of the Huron Federation of Agricul- ture told directors of the Feder- ation Thursday that the Huron and Bruce Federations, through their property committees met with proposed high-voltage line except those in Htillett township and there has been complete agree- ment on setting‘up a negotiating committee to fight for the best' possible deal for farmers. The ne_gotiating committee will be people. Mr. McCallum said only a few farmerS feel they can stop the line from going through, their area while most are interested in see- ing that their best interests, Ind those,of their municipality are looked after. EDITOR Organizing Is Only Hope For Change Lucknow Sentinel. Dear Sir; p Mr. J. A. McMurchy brought out two interesting facts in his letter of December 6th, "one hour's work will buy more farm produce than at any time in our history", and "some of our prod-'• ucts like' apples , tomatoes and other products go to waste in the fields for lack of profitable help." Financially, labor has made , progress in the last 25 years, and farmers have not. Let us not condemn the man who is bargain- ing . collectively, and improving his financial status; rather, let us improve our own. A labourer hires for a certain salary,, and a storekeeper:has the _tights° mar.k_up his merchandise over his wholesale cost. A farin- er, however, has .first the elem- -ems to contend--with;-„if_he has a good crop and can afford to get . it off, he'must then compete in I the marketplace. often with icheaper, impOrted subsidized. I products. ,A business man would , not operate with-5116h odds. The ! produce in the fields should .be worth a labourer's wage and.a profit for the producer; -0n-sumer with plenty Of food available. Only through organiling, as other segments of society have, can farmers hope to change this sys-: tem.' Sincerely, .MRS. JOHN AUSTIN.
