Mrs. Gerriet Logtenberg receiv-
ed, tragic news on Tuesday even 7
ing, October 31st that her sixteen-
year-old granddaughter, Joanne
Vellenga of Mossley, Ontario lost
both her legs just below the knees
white-helping-to fill a-pit-silo on
her father's farm: '
Somehow Joanne slipped and
fell into the auger. She was
rushed to Victoria Hospital, Lon-
don, where she has undergone two
operations and received fourteen
pints of blood.
At the time of writing, she was
still in a semi-conscious condi--
tion, suffering from shock.

method of handling mail, on Sun-
. days and ilolidays will be intro-
duced at the Lucknow Post. Office.
To facilitate this new system a
standing Mail receiver will b.c
located opposite the outside mail
receiver at the Post Office.
This receiver should be used for
mail destined to places other than
Lucknow. Mail for Lucknow itself
should be posted in the regular

should the mail receiverlocated
in the lock box , lobby be used for
outgoing mail posted on Sunday.
This sytem will provide contin•-•
ued rapid handling of-your-mail
and further, will enable the staff
at the Lucknow Post Office to
have a full day off.

and ready to present the various

large door on, the east side of the
garage, breaking several boards
in the door.
SUnday night, entry was gained
to the Lucknow Central Public •
School thrdugh a small window
in the Kindergarten room. The
principal's office door was
smashed as was a filing cabinet
in the principal's office and one
in the secretary's office. A
handle from a paper cutter was •
broken off and used to pry open
the filing cabinets. A substan-
tial sum of money from Lucknow
Night _.School was-stolen plus a. ,
bit of change for the lunch money
at the.school.
Provincial police from Kincar-
dine ire investigating the incid-
ents. .
Other incidents- of vandalism and'
-destruction over -the week end -in-
cluded the flag on the post office
stolen for the second time in about
five days , 'also thewrope for the
flag on the Legion Hall. Damage
was done to the Bell Telephone
booth on Lucknow Main •Street in

Mr. and Mrs. Tony Verbeek
(Junior) have purchased a farm in
the Kincardine area and will be
taking possession in the' very near

half Miles south of the town of
Kincardine in Huron Township and,
was formerly owned by Mr.-and --
Mrs. Stewart Aitken, who plan to
retire. •
The Verbeeks had been living
on HighWay 4 near Teeswater in
the Jack Ross house and Tony was
a bulk milk truck driVer for a
Listowel firm.
Of the three Verbeek children,
the, eldest is' in kindergarten and
will be attending Ripley-Huron •
Central School.
Dies Sunday
George A. Hackett , a resident
of Cochrane, died in Lucknow on
Sunday. He was 75 years of age.
The funeral was held on ,Tues-

ial Chapel in Lucknow with burial•
in Greenhill Cemeter_y_, Lucknow.
While Hallowe'en locally was
reported as being quieter than
normal,- last week end made up
for it and kept police officers
busy investigating incidents in the
village.
On Friday night, the Log Cab-
in Restaurant was, entered and
cigarettes, small change and
bottle caps' were stolen. Pie and
butter were trampled into the
floor. Entry was gained at the
rear of the' building through a
door. Two local youths,- one a
juvenile have been charged.
Saturday night, numerous win-
dows Were smashed in the building
owned by Gordon Montgomery
and formerly hOusing Silverwoods
down town plant. Ncithing was
stolen, from the building.
A' car, parked, on Montgomery
Ripley. District High School
held its annual commencement
on the evening of November 3rd.
Many of its former students re-
turned to re trive r-diplomas
and hard earned,awards. The
teaching staff warmly welcomed
them back for the last time. Rip-
ley's present students were there
also to receive awards for the
previous term's work.
The musical interlude was prov-
ided by Joan Ferguson:, Margaret
MacKay and Sally Harrison..
These girls did a great job and
deserve a great deal of credit for
keeping the audience entertained.
Three other administrators from
across Ontario received' the cert-
ificate at a ceremony,at McMas77,
ter on Friday , Octobet 27.
Mr. Thompson has completed
a five year extension course by
means of correspondence and sent
