'If the Quebec Government
earmark $3 million for the
mess hit with crop kisses,
ely,Ontario can, in addition
a like amount from the. Feder-
Government". These com-
nts were made by Blake
nforti, Regional Co-ordinator
Ontario of the National Farm-
Union, concerning the farm-
in Eastern Ontario who suffer-
severe crop losses due to weath
conditions.
Without assistance many,of
se farmers wilt fall by the
wayside , and their talents and
skills will be lost, from the farm ,
in scene. Can the people of
anada iffOrd to let •thcs,11.4pen?
The efforts of the Ontario Govern
meat , matching dollar for dollar
for money raised, will not solve
the problem. Many of these
farmers haVe no money to start'
the fund rolling.
Mr. Sanford concluded that,
"It has long been the policies of
Government to give grants to
corporations to build new factor-
ies and supposedly to create jobs.
A recent example is the.
announcement -of a grant of
$86'7,000 to. Leoi Strausse of
Canada-Ltd. , a subsidiary of the
U.S.'ompany to establish a
plant in Cornwall." •
. Must farmers be looked upon
as second class citizens?' Should
they not expect the same treat-
ment
., as corporations to allow
them' to continue farming and
contribute to our general econ-
omy/ in a meaningful way?
