Dear Don,
I believe the Sentinel is fortun-
ate in that quite a few Of its read-
ers have an interest in educational
problems. I also believe that
some of these readers can do a
good .job of expressing themselves
on educational problems. A
somewhat chance attraction to the
study of global or world history
has brought me into contact with
some of these problems. During
the last year I have written two
articles concerning thesc prob
letns under the, headings - 1. An
Education Blunder and 2. We Must
Do Better.
Although there have been ciYil-
Aza ions o din another
on this planet for many thousands
of years 'it is only during the last
few hundred years that the differ-
ent Civilizations \have been liter-
ally brought under one roof. The
western world played a major
role' in this. great achievement by •
1. Making many voyages of dis-
covery , at varioustimes, after
being giyen a good start'by ex-
plorers such as Bartholomew Diaz
and ChFistopher Colurribus.
2. Being able to make remark-
able progress in the fields of trans
portation And communication
down through the 1§th-arid-20itr-
centuries.
Considering the important con-,
tributions that the past western
world--has,-made.-town-ids bri
the existing civilizations much
closer together it is surely up to
the present western world to do
what it can to make the different
civilizations feel at home under '
the new arrangement. Thanks to
the appearance of some well
written books on world history ,
this challenge was. becoming bet-

thing of informing our students
that it was no longer necessary
for them tobother with the stib.-

leadership towards this challenge
has been to inform Our ktudents
