We thank the teachers for tak-
ing time to help us out in all
the sports we have put the time
into. I'm glad the High SchoOl
could take tini,e to compete again
st , us. Have fun in your next year.
On June 9th the Grade 6 class
left Ripley at about 7.00 a.m.
for Toronto. We arrived in Tor-
onto at about 10.00 a.m. and at
approximately 10.15 we were at
Casa Loma for a tour of the
ninet-y-eight room-castle.
EVerything was very lovely and we'
saw secret passageways, beauti-
ful furniture , an example of
plumbing at that time and an 850
foot tunnel to the Stables.
We then drove to Queen's Park
where we ate our.lunches •After
eating we walked to Varsity Stad-
ium where we saw two men who
-had:been jogging-for-sornetime-;—:-
We returned to,Queen's Park to
have a tour through the
Parliament Buildings where we
met Mr. M. Gaunt. Our picture
was taken with Mr. Gaunt'and:
after our tour he took us through
his office.
We walked to the Royal Ontar-
io Museum where we saw many
things including stuffed animals,
fish, rocks, mummies , dinos-
aurs, murals, swords, and Chin-
ese figures as well as many other ,
things. After visiting the
Museum we , headed 'for home'.
• We stopped at the Red Barn in
Guelph where we ate our suppe r.
Tired but happyWe arrived
home at about '9 p.m. Our ,
thanks to Mr. Stanley and Mrs.
Bissonnette for accompanying us
as well as Mr. Bonnett , our bus
driver.
visited on Sunday at HuronvieW
Lodge, Clinton with Henry Gard-
ner. They had intended visiting
also with Mrs. Daisy McCharles,
but. she had gone out for a drive
before they arrived.

On Wednesday, June,7, at the
Ripley Public School at 2.30 p. m.
there was a Track Meet against
the Ripley High School. To start
off the: Meet was the Boys High
Jump. In 1st place at 5 feet was
Randy Strauss, 2nd place at 4
feet 9 inches went to Sheldon
Solomon and -3rd place at 4 feet,
7 inches'went ,to Courtney Liddle,
__Next was the Girls High Jump.
In 1st place at 4 ft. 5 in. was.•
Patti MacDonald, 2nd place at
4 ft. 3 in. was Karen Janisse
3rd.place at 4 ft. 2 in. Laurie
Coiling. Then at the other pits,
as the High Jump was going on
was the Running Broad for the girls.

Ashfield Natives
Donald Lean MacDonald , 71, a
former U.S. agricultural attache
in Pakistan and Le.bannon, died
March 1 at Arlington Hospital,
Arlington, Virginia.
Mr., MacDonald was born in
Calumet, Michigan. He was grad-
uated from Montana State. College
where he later'earned his mater's
degree. He taught agriculture in
high school and college in Mont-
ana before going to Washington in
1945 as director of vocational ed-
ucation and assistant secretary • -
treasurer oithe American Institute
of .Cooperation.
His parents were the late. James
MacDonald and,Christena ,Mac -
Lean, Ashfield natives.
He joined the Department of
Agriculture in .1948 and three years
later was named assistant head of
the, extension eduCation and train-
ing 'division of the Office of For-
eign. Agricultural Relations. From
1954 until 19'61 he was agricultur-
al attache in Karachi, Pakistan,
and held the same post in Berut ,
Lebannon, from 1962 to 1966. He
won two departmentardwards for
his work in Lebanon. •

He leaves his wife, Mabel, B.;
a daughter, Mrs. Janet Manthos
of Leesburg, Virginia; a sister,
(Sa-ralij-Peterson of
Fullerton, California, and four
grandchildren.
A memorial service took place
at Kintail Cemetery on June 11
at 3.30 p.m. conducted by Rev.
K. J.' Rooney of Ashfield Preiby-
terian Church. Dave MacDonald
played the bagpipes at the grave-
side.

Council met' for its re&lar ses-
sion in the Hall on' Tuesday even
ing, June 6. All members•were
in attendance with Reeve Lyons
presiding.
The minutes of the May'rneet-
ing were read and adopted on
motion of Councillors Aitchison
and Durnin.
Three ratepayers, namely, .
Wm. Rintoul, Cyril BOyle and
Gerald Van Aaken, appeared bec-
fore Council in regard to munici-
pal drainage questions.
